Very nice work Richard.

Lot I have learnt from your work here. I very much like painting aircrew and although improving there is still along way to go seeing the figures here.

The tucks and folds in the clothing must be painstaking to get it as you have. Very artistic.

            Thanks Guy's and Girl,

for the kind and motivating words.

The metallic effects I made with a base colour of black and then I use a normal HB graphite pencil and gently draw over the raised details and those arias I want to shine like metal. For the highlighting I used some basic skin tone (because this is a softer colour in relation to white) end carefully put one some little highlights.

Thanks again and more to come.

            Cheers Richi

hi Richi, that has work so well, i would never off guessed a pencil, I like to use a black under coat, then a sandy, then a coat of med vallejo flesh , and work from there on, with high and low lite,

and i will use an aged while or some type off cream, i try not to use just white at all, any more, even for mixing, find it can be too strong like black, if that makes scene

Richi you have put in more work on that metal cannister. That is top stuff. Fascinated on the HB pencil . My last model I used a pencil for little bits and pieces and it is a very effective medium.

Very interesting on the skin colours. I only, at the moment, produce 1/48 pilots and all other figures in 1/48. One things which I have consistently failed to achieve is the eyes.

They always look awkward, not right and over done. I suppose it is not only just the eyes it is the whole of the eye and the surround including eye brows. Any tips which could improve my latest pilots who look as though they are dead would be appreciated.

                  Hi Laurie, Hi Moni,

                  and thanks for the compliments.

                  Moni it makes sence

                  Laurie,

well the eye's isn't my strong point either, but I have tried a lot of methods, the best one for me is to let them not look forwards but to either left or right.

problem is that if they look forward 99,9% they look awkward.

I think in 1/48 scale less is often more, regarding the eye's never tried to paint small figurines like that.

                  hope this helps a little.

                  Cheers Richi

                      Good luck Laurie,

and remember 'there has never fallen a master from the sky' if you know what I mean.

                      Cheers Richi

Outstanding Richi. Great thread, one day I may just get a figure somewhere near to yours.

Thank Si for your kind words,

although it is taking more time then I am used to, to complete a figurine, the trick with the dry brushing as a pre highlighting definitely pays of.

                          Laurie,

how are your figurines coming along? maybe a picture?

I found some pilot figurines in 1/48 from Hasagawa in my stash, got those about 25 years ago, never used them but maybe I give those a try.

                          Cheers Richi

These are the figures Richi. They give an inflated scale size on the photo. They are only the width of the thumbnail size in fact.

You can see they look a bit dozy with out eyes but better that way than my attempts so far. Bit ashamed as being an architect trained art was a good subject for me but here I have failed and dismally.

Look on the body slightly strange as I had to remove the seat belts cast in to the figure which did not for me look authentic and made my own.

                            Any help would be appreciated.

                              Hi Laurie,

I found it, I will give it a try but I need a couple of days I think,

I will make 2 of these 1 pilot with his flight bag and 1 ground crew 2 row 4 figure from the left.

but looking at the figurines eye's, it will be a problem but I think I will try a dark brownish wash to make the facial shadows.

                              Lets try it out

                              Cheers Richi
