Here is the first application of oil paints:

I have worked the red, both some highlights and a deepening of the shadows. The main work has been the face ,blocking in the main areas of the face, a little bit of the hair just to put the face into the 'context' of the hair colour.Attached FilesComment

Here is the progress so far.

Tonight's aim is work on the face, tidy up the gold braid and work on the fur.
I wish oils dried as fast as acrylics.

When I was at a model show a figure painter told me how he had a specially designed heating compartment which he put his figures in once oiled and it was dry in an hour or so. I couldn't risk it myself in case I melted the model:smiling5:Comment

Sounds a nice idea, but like you I woud be concerned if the figures are plastic. i have used a hairdrier on occasion, but the trusty airing cupboard works. At some point I'll check out the WWW to see if there are any build plans on-line for one, I recall years ago reading that somebody made one using a light bulb as the heat source, probab;y find that modern bulbs don't give off enough heat.

Hi guys
Very nearly finished - just need to tidy up the eyes and a bit of detailing here and there.

I'm calling this one finished
For the breastplate I usedsome quite old Humbrol polished steel, not perfect so I may revisit it after Christmas.

Hi Peter
Just been reading you and Steve's thoughts on drying oils more quickly. I made a drying box and it seems to work OK. I can't remember where the idea came from but I picked it up from the old forum. I think it may have been Carl Startin.
It is one of those plastic storage boxes. Holes drilled it the lid to allow air to circulate (the black tape is where I pressed too hard and cracked the lid!). I put a sheet of thin ply wood in the base because the bottom of the box had ridges. The bulb is a small 40w. I think the oils dry quicker because of the light as well as the warmth. The bulb is in a corner so I can adjust the distance of the model from the bulb.
