After a brief foray back into 1/16 figure territory I've decided to go back to busts for a while. This is Verlinden's 'Indian Chief' in 200mm. I believe that this is actually a portrait of Oglala Lakota Sioux chief, Red Cloud, one of the most photographed and therefore recognisable native Americans:
He's depicted wearing a 'war shirt' something that only the bravest warriors were entitled to:
The bust is presented as a one-piece casting (apart from the plinth). I was a bit annoyed that, since the feathers are cast with the head, the sculptor had left a whole load of fill to support them Removing it was tricky, and I inevitably broke one of the feathers . a bit lazy of Verlinden:
Anyway, onwards and upwards. All of that bead-work will be challenging....
