How do you choose your next model/project?

So I'm coming to the end of my current model, (German Half Track) and have a few models sitting on the shelf.
But I'm a bit unsure which one to build next? Nice problem to have I know BTW.

I have a modern motorbike, and quite a few planes, (about seven) mostly WW2, but one relatively modern one.

If you have a few models to choose from, how do you choose? or is it a matter of shutting your eyes and picking one at random?

    Cheers

    It varies with me ?

Sometimes it will be something that’s been in the stash for a very long time and I can’t ignore it any longer. Other times it will be inspired by something I’ve read or seen.

I’ve also put a poll up on here when I’m really struggling to decide and let the guys pick something for me ?

    Geoff.

I get my sparks from a good movie, documentary, a picture in a book, a good story on Youtube... They all can inspire my brain and start a project from either something I have in the stash or from the hands of the postman...

For me its 'is there a GB about to start'......i was once on 4 forums at once so that was easy.....only here now since others have closed

Its very rare i do two of the same genre on the trot......i like variation so that can make things easier

I once did a long running what if story.......so i was using up lots of cheap old plane kits.....that was fun cos i was enthusiastic about it

You think you got problems?....some people have hundreds of kits in the stash........and still sit there looking and saying 'ive got nothing to build' ??

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

A good question. Mostly what GB is next, then a movie or program I’ve just seen, then box art.

I tend to choose according to ......
Is a GB coming up that interests me?
Is it Spring/Summer or Autumn/Winter? I will take on a bigger, more complex. time consuming build later in the year.
What have I just built? I tend to build a different genre to that I have just built.
Something sparks an interest. A TV programme, someone else's blog, a book, a picture - anything really.

It's difficult when we have a comprehensive stash to choose what to build next, my inspiration can come from reading a book or an online article or perhaps a YouTube video, but usually they will have a connection to the previous build, tenuous sometimes, but it's usually there.

Or sometimes while I'm 'away with the fairies' indulging in my own world of 'what if scenarios' a thought will occur and I'll go with that!

I'm not really an impulse purchaser (depending on your definition!) and every kit I buy has a plan behind it, I have a pair of Hasegawa 1/72 Starfighters 'in transit' shall we say, I only bought them, well one really, the second was an accident, for their comprehensive decal sheet, the kits are less expensive that the corresponding decal sets, it's nice when it works like that sometimes! it's like getting a free kit! So, I'll 'what if?' them into something or other, probably something 'raspberry ripple' ! That would be quite cool!

I generally struggle, as I am at the moment, to think of what to do next. It's one reason that I like group builds as someone else has had the inspiration ?

Sometimes I will just see a kit and it sparks my fire, but often I will spend hours or even days looking for my next victim.

Maybe draw up a short list and let us decide!

Miko (so, what's in his stash I wonder?)

It would be a very short list:

                      1) Something that sparks my interest ?

I don't have a stash, I generally only buy to build.

I choose something that interests me and needs research that ideally requires travel.

My next build is a WW1 MkIV Male Tank and the Armed Forces museum in Brussels has one.
Still in its original colour and I believe the actual vehicle the Tamiya model is based on.
Eurostar and hotel booked, might even sample a beer or two whilst I'm there.

Also have a Miniart European Tram to build, that entailed a visit to the ASVI museum in Thuin to get some photos.
It has a few different options and my build will be of a tram that worked between Verviers and Eupen in the 30's.

Next is likely to be an Airship, there is a Zeppelin museum in Frankfurt that looks a good source of information.
Tentatively booked a break there in March, easy journey from London City airport.
