    Christmas model making slow down

Over the festive period, do you slow down on the model making front as other things become more of a priority?
Or do you pretty much maintain your output?
Or do you get more free time, so actually do more model making over the festive period?

Personally I will have lots of free time, so will probably maintain my current output, eg: averaging about one small model every few weeks.
I am retired and most of my extended family are grown up, have their own kids, etc, and all do their own thing, so large family gatherings are a rarity.
Plus I have seen most of them recently anyway.

I quite like having lots of free time to do my own thing and as I get older, there are less family pressures / commitments.

    What about you.....?

My family are under strict instructions not to contact me on Xmas day except in emergency situations - and I'm not talking about them not being able to assemble the kids' toys! So I do in theory have more time to myself. That doesn't necessarily translate to more time at the bench though, it all depends on what I fancy doing at the time.

Modern Day Christmas and all it stands for, doesn't interest me, I'm glad when its all over and done with.

It's just a few days interfering with my 'normal life'

Model making is usually way down on my priority list, so this mad time of the year makes not one jot of difference to my 'Output'

In any case, I just build what and when the urge takes me. That can take months.......

I still enjoy Christmas, it's nice thinking of and getting presents for my wife and daughter.
Put the tree up last Thursday, lots of memories come flooding back with all the different decorations.
Just waiting for my daughter to come round and put the rocket on top that she made at infant school from a toilet roll tube.
She is 33 now, but still got that along with a grim looking knitted Santa my late ma got at a charity Christmas fair.
My birthday is on the 22nd so it all happens for me around the same time.
Not much time for model making, lots of other stuff to be getting on with.
Case of Bolleke, Antwerp's finest beer to enjoy and a nice rib of beef too.

We do a lot of celebrating over Christmas and because I work in a standalone garage the combination of Christmas and the sometimes extreme cold weather do have an impact on my bench time. I will be on tick over now until the new year.

I’ll be working a fair bit over the Christmas/New Year period anyway so with that and family time I probably won’t get chance to do too much modelling.

I’ll try and fit in a bit of bench time when I can, pretty much as normal really ?

                Geoff.

I'm paying the penalty for cooking great Chrimbo Nosh - the Outlaws are descending for the tenth year in succession! Along with working in school again to the end of term on Friday, sorting out the outside decorations for the nearby Head Outlaws and Her Indoors I won't have much bench time between now and New Year. However, in 2025 I shall be ruthless in locking the Cave door and revelling in thinner and adhesive fumes, and the sibilant hiss of knives through plastic, amid the soothing melodies of Clanaad, Enya and others!

Does my build rate slow down ? I can't really go much slower, so no, I suppose not. On top of that, there's no extra leave for me, so just the bank holidays doesn't give me much chance to seek solitude at the bench..

My bench time has been stalled for a month or so, it couldn't get much slower, but it would have slowed down during the Christmas period as I always seem to go out more at this time of year socialising with people.

And then my 28 year daughters will both be home for a few days soon, so my modelling room will revert to being a bedroom for about a week.

Hopefully in the new year I'll get back into it. That's the plan anyway.

My birthday is the 25th & my wife's is the 21st so the holidays have always been a big deal in our families, so no time for modeling from Thanksgiving till after the 2nd week of January.

Paul, that must have been a bummer when you were a kid with christmas and birthday on the same day. Leaving you nothing to look forward to during the year. My brother was born on Dec 31, so as a kid he got his birthday present in June lol

Mine too, you are only the second person I have 'met' with the same birthday.
As I am going to spend my birthday and Xmas with family in South Africa there will be a definite lessening of model building but will get my early presents on my daughters birthday on the 19th.
