something a bit different - found by accident whilst looking for something else on one of my late night meanders around the net

Ammo tin to hold two Flak 38 20mm magazines

Reputed to have been owned by the 311 Flak Battalion during the battle of the bulge - found with a whole load of other stuff in the silt at the bottom of a lake near Bastogne. Presumably whoever was tasked with cleaning up did the equivalent of sweeping the debris under the rug and just chucked it in the lake

Still has a lot of the dark grey paint on the outside. Inside is in red primer. There are traces of a white number painted on the lid. Possibly 4-1

still has the fibrous pads in the lid to stop the magazines rattling about. Extremely well made tin. Top of the can is double skinned with a rubber gasket in the groove and the lid would have originally pulled down into the groove for a watertight seal

Was sold to me with a seized lid, various holes, sheared off locking catch and plenty of muck although vendor has obviously cleaned it up and removed all the large chunks of loose paint and rust

I soaked it with WD40 for a couple of days and that un-seized the lid hinge and the stump of the locking catch

Wiped some of the grime off with 99.9%IPA then gave it a rub over with 3in1 light oil

I have a Dragon 1:6 Flak 38 so this will be a great reference for scratching a can to go with it

I have had a go at this before, but for some reason made a mess of it. I have the Italeri Zundapp in the stash, but it ain't a patch on this - no less than 158 parts..........................

Postie dropped this off an hour ago.
I got it for less than £40 delivered so quite happy. Should keep me going for a while once started as the box is packed to the hilt with plastic.

Andy.

seems a bit strange that out of the two options you cant actually build whats on the box front ?

Just plastic, Steve, but very finely moulded ( Zvezda don't do PE ). As to the man/pig, it would have to be a piglet for both to fit in the sidecar!

Found those oldies yesterday in a flea market for a total cost of 13€.

The Airfix figure is dated 1974 but the cover doesn't lie... inside it is as new.
The sacks are made of a very soft, rubber-like, plastic, but they are nicely moulded and, I suppose, as old as Washignton.

The only Eduard Ltd I paid over the odds for was the Good Morning Da Nang phantom.
