Their secret sauce (Artis Opus) seems to be dampening the brush very slightly, by dabbing it on a piece of slightly damp sponge.

The texture pallet is supposed to replicate the hard edges one would normally be trying to catch with dry brushing, so giving a better idea of the effect you'll get before committing to the model. I've seen several people make their own by gluing random parts and bit of old sprue etc to a board.

This is a completely new idea in model building. Maybe I should look for someone to build the 1/35 tanks for me - I would then paint them myself... :tears-of-joy:

I wouldn’t normally do this, because I generally like building kits more than painting them, but as I said, the man they’re from has given me plenty of magazines and books over the years. So sure, I’ll return the favour by painting some of his models. Only problem right now is that I wanted to start spraying them half an hour ago, but found I have maybe 3 ml of dark yellow left. The Takom one will be entirely that colour, and the other will be three-colour camouflage, so I doubt the paint I have will be enough.

Bavaria is rather far from Zeeland (tons of NRW licence plates to be seen around here throughout the year, though) and early-/pre-war German vehicles aren’t really my area of interest, else I’d possibly take you up on that

I didn’t know that was a thing, but I use this:

A corner of my cutting mat that, for reasons unknown to me, has developed a rather rough texture. I don’t remember if I already used this corner to test whether the brush is dry enough and that caused the wear, or if I only started doing that once the texture appeared. I suspect the former.

The brush is probably like what Andy The Smythe Meister bought, except I only have this one, that I bought last year at a model show to try it out. It’s about a centimetre across, but the vendor told me he also had other sizes. It does work better than a flat brush, but it’s also very much harder to clean because of its short bristles (the tip is tan here because I took this photo right after using it, but before cleaning). I also bought this at an art shop a bit later:

This is slightly smaller than the Abteilung 502 brush, and cut at an angle. However, it doesn’t work as well for drybrushing. The bristles are softer and that angle doesn’t help it retain paint but actually seems to make it shed paint faster.

Wifey bought be a surprise present.. Amazon dumped it outside our door, so we were lucky to get it at all but it wasn't in a box or a bag and the front image is ruined by a huge sticker that won't peel off. Way to go guys, would it have killed you to put it in a box?

Complain to Amazon about sub standard packaging and give the product a one star review including the picture. I’ve done that in the past. It probably doesn’t change much but it does make you feel better

Ok, as always it all starts with me needing something small - a paint, a brush or something like that.
This time it was glue and cleaner.

Since I live in the middle of nowhere, there are no local model shops, so I have to order the things. So it only makes sense to order a few other things at the same time - to save on postage!
This means I am practically economical and environmentally conscious at the same time!

In order to protect the planet and my wallet, this time there were a few kits in 1:72 scale. The Centaur will be my contribution to the D-Day group building. You will also see the other two here soon.

And then there was this other thing...
Do you know when you've seen something that you think is great - but it's actually completely unreasonable and doesn't fit "into the concept" or your wallet at all - or you don't have any room for it at all?
That's how I've been feeling for some time now with these 1/16 scale kits of the early German tanks. For years I've been telling myself that this is all nonsense and that I don't need anything like that. Then the models were sold out - and suddenly something was available again in my trusted online shop. And somehow a fuse blew on me... :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy:

My pocket money for this month is definitely gone. I'm excited to see if I'll ever finish building the thing - but somehow I'd like to start right away! ..better not. :smiling5:
Best regards,
Andreas

That is an odd kit … It has a ton of minor problems, but I liked it anyway Its worst feature is the wheels, if you use the ones with pressed spokes they just look very poorly done. The dish wheels look better. You may also want to file the front of the turret to make it a bit rounder, as Zvezda moulded it much to angular. Correcting the nose and the angle of the loader’s hatch may be a bit more advanced steps, though.

Wait, I just remembered that I built that kit on here a few years ago
