    Belated hello!

Totally missed this, otherwise I'd have come straight here instead of barreling in with begging posts!

I am from Sussex and have always been fascinated by aircraft, influenced by 80's cold war themed movies and my grandfather who served on HMS Eagle.
I used to model almost constantly in my early teens, building mainly helicopters which remains a source of fascination today. I have a small 20+ year old collection of 1:72 Italeri helicopters stashed in the garage that I will get round to at some point.
Decided to start modelling again now that my children are no longer babies and I have the space to devote to a dedicated work station.
The motivation to rekindle this beloved pastime was again my grandfather and I decided to start building Fleet Air Arm and Royal Navy Air Service models in 1:72 scale. Currently I am making a hash of an Airfix FG.1 Phantom whilst I get my eye back in and I have a Hasegawa FRS Mk.1 Harrier and AZ models Supermarine Attacker FB.2 lined up.

I'm hoping to pick up contemporary tips & techniques and maybe even inspiration to explore other model types.

          Welcome Chris!
You'll find us a friendly bunch - any questions, any modelling subject, there'll be someone who can answer it!
I'm toying with the idea of FAA models at the moment - for one, looking at the Sword Gannet AEW, which somehow attracts me!

Oooh yeah, the Gannet. One of the ugliest pretty planes ever! I will get round to one of these, but the 'desireables' list is long. Top of the list to find are Skua, Sea Hawk, Buccaneer, Lightining II, Wessex, Scimitar & Hunter.

I have this book which was printed in 1982 and catalogues everything since the Short Type 184 in 1915 to the Sea Harrier FRS.1.

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum. Quite a lot of enthusiasts rekindling their hobby after acquiring that extra time in their life. So you're not alone here. Me?...had a short disruption during my teens but been at it since.
I'll be building a SeaHawk soon for a local GB and hoping it will be a quick build. Feel free to drop in sometime.

                    Cheers,
                    Richard

Thanks! And I'll definitely be looking out for that build!

                      .......what does GB stand for?

Group Build Chris. It was new to me a few months ago too! Basically a group sign up to building kits that have something in common, such as starter sets.

Right! It's obvious when you know!

Watching the current starter set 'GB' with interest. Just missed it otherwise would have enjoyed that one!
