    Best paint

    Hi all.

I’m Russ, new member, fairly new modeller, I’m currently using Tamiya paints, but find them grainy, and suggestions of something better ?

    Cheers in advance

    Welcome to the forum.
Do you use an airbrush? If so then there is a different answer to a brush.
Also, if you do airbrush, do you have an extracting air spray booth? Again that might be important.

      Welcome to the forum Russ.
I suggest that you have a look in the forum section "the paint booth" there are a couple of dozen posts in there singing the praises of just about all the paints you can find.

Asking what is the best is very much 'how long is a length od string'.

Welcome Russ to a great forum.
To help with your query, as Barry posted, we need to know how you're painting.

Welcome Russ. Tamiya pints, at least those I've used, have their (minor) faults but I've not seen them described as grainy before.

My experience is that if a bottle of Tamiya paint gets old (as in several years), it sometimes gets grainy, and if so, brush-painting with it gets very difficult because your brush will keep lifting up semi-dried paint you just put down.

However, it needs to have sat in a bottle that has been opened before for quite some time for this to happen. I’ve certainly never seen it with a newly opened one.

                  Russ,
                  Acrylic or lacquer?
I have just migrated over to their lacquer paints. They are brilliant. Then again, I airbrush.

                  Kind regards,
                  John
