Just a Yank from across the pond.

Howdy, Yall. My nickname is Ski.

I wasn't sure if yall took in Yanks from across the pond over here,...... but here goes. :worried: You could always tell your friends ya found me at the corner market, I'm good with that.

I recognize a few faces and names here from other sites, so I'm not completely lost. I'm into figure painting, mostly larger scales, but I have been known to work armor kits, and even a wingy dingy thingy every now and again. I just don't fancy working cars or anything that needs to have a very clean appearance when finished. I like to fall back on the "old carpenter's rule", we always know how to hide our mistakes. So far, so good. Car builders have my total and complete respect, their artistic talents are impressive.

I've been "sniffin paint and gluin my fingers together" since I was in my early teens. I got started painting figures very early were I learned from the son of Donald Burgess, the former editor of Campaigns magazine. Yes, that was a very long time ago, but most of us can remember those days way back then.

I'm retired, so I try to get some model bunker time in every day, if possible. Summers are tough, lots to maintain here on the Ranchito, horses, chickens, dogs, stacking hay, clearing fields, etc. Winters are much more conducive to bunker time, minus the shoveling and plowing snow. Up here in the bush 90 miles north of Spokane, WA we can get dumped on, but nothing a good cigar and some tunes playing won't fix, right?

I look forward to meeting yall and enjoying your work, cause I'm always learning, and that's the fun part for me.

    Cheers, Ski.

My good man!! Really good to see you on here. Must say a bit surprised! How did you find us???

Whilst this is a British hosted forum, it has a pretty diverse membership from both sides of the 'pond' and indeed the rest of the world.....literally to the other side!! As Neil said those from the 'colonial' contingent are all jolly decent chaps!!

We're also pretty diverse in terms of genre.

Make sure you introduce yourself with some of your work.....that U-boat conning tower you did a while back is still one of my all time favourites.

            Good to have to aboard!!

            ATB.

            Andrew

                  Hi Ski and welcome.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. My sister lives on the more temperate side of WA, a bit south of Olympia. We grew up in Bflo. NY so can empathize w/U on snow.

Thank you so kindly, Tim, Peter, Jim, Niel, Andrew, Chris, Dave, T, and V, and Mini. I appreciate the warm welcome, Gents.

Good to be amongst fellow "paint sniffers" having fun. I like that moniker, "colonial", lol. Funny, when I was in Oxford in 02' one of our team members had "Spotted Dick" after dinner. As you can imagine, we colonials were clueless, but that 19yr old kid on our team just had to make a go of it. He did say it was good, though, as we all got a kick out of it. I won't be talking about napkins, or bonnets, or bum bags, or,.............dang, I forgot most of them. I had a list of funny verbal comparisons between Yanks and Brits, the two nations separated by a common language :surprised:

Andrew, I'm going to have to agree with you, the conning tower vignette is one of my favorites too, with "Early Mornin Dew" a close second. I'll throw up a few pics in the appropriate sections. I need to do some digging around and get the lay of the land. Yall have been busy, so I better be too.

Good to see you here too, Niel, that's excellent. There are a lot of incredible artists on Planetfigure, I'm always amazed at what I see. I'll post a cabinet pic or two in the other hobby section as well

Chris, I do have a few wingys on the shelf, so ya never know, it may happen:cold-sweat:

Mini, we're in the heat of it right now, but I'm praying for snow most definitely. It's a gorgeous part of the country, IMHO.

                        Thanks again, Gents!

Howdy, Chris. I will post my one wingy very soon, and thanks for asking. I try to keep well rounded in different areas of this Sport, but cars would be my weakest. I've found over the years that if I spread myself too thin and try to master too many things they all suffer. I do like the larger scale birds like you, the detail is pretty good, imho. I'll have to check on your posts, looking forward to it.
