    Gardening corner

We had a lovely day weather wise and I was lucky enough that I had enough free time to get in the garden for a tidy up.

I’m amazed that so many plants are still active this late into the year and I’m still picking fruit.

Another hand full of Cherry toms and more still ripening. Getting a good handful every few days still.

All looks very nice. I was surprised how warm it was today. I've done a few cutting as well.

When I stopped for lunch it was warm enough to sit without a t shirt!

Very true! During August we were picking peas, beans, sweetcorn and tomatoes……first time successfully grown beans and couldn’t get enough of them.
I’ve only got a small plot but it shows what you can grow yourself if your willing to put in the work

The taste of your own fruit and veg is well worth the effort. Gardening is good for you mental health as well. Our tomatoes were poor this year although the beans and salad crops were good.

100% agree. A day in the garden plus the sunshine….and playing a Yes Album through my Bluetooth speaker, lashings of tea…..absolute Nirvana ☺️☺️☺️

One hour a day in the garden is as beneficial as three hours therapy. My garden is my happy place normally, but this year is being more than a challenge. Very much a weed year here. Hot, sunny and WET. I just can't get on top of it. After the spring clean-up I can normally use an hour or two a day, weather permitting, and keep things in check. Not this year though.

The runner beans are still flowing and we’ve had yet another round of runner beans!!
Easily half a kilo picked over the last 10 days and fingers crossed if the rest continues to develop probably the same again ?

Si - look nice. This is the time for tidying up but also harvest time. When we bought our property 20+ years ago one of the first things we did (even before the house was built) was to plant some fruit trees.

Our eating apple tree only produced a few, but our cooking apple tree was ok:

we also got a reasonable crop from our walnut tree. I am so glad that we planted it, when we did plant it we did not really expect to get many but it has been cropping quite well for the last 8 years or so.

Nice Peter.Remember peeling wet walnuts in my youth and ending up with brown hands for awhile.

Richard - I also learned from experience, now I always wear gloves to de-husk them.
Si - the freezer is filling up with crumble, fortunately we have some hedges with blackberries nearby

Must admit that my Wife is the gardener here. I just mow the lawn, etc.
She does quite well, this year we have had, strawberries, blackberries, rasberries, blueberries, apples, loads of herbs, rosemary, thyme, mint, chives, and tomatoes, last year we also had potato too.
I'd rather tinker in my garage (pottering) or study (model making).
            ???

It’s great that your Mrs is interested in the garden and sounds like she has been very successful ?
