Hi Lee, looks to me like you get "critters" after those chickens hence the cyclone wire top on the pen. Nice garden nothing like fresh veggies. Cheers, Rick.

I'm in the process of building some meat rabbit hutches and finishing off building my veggie raised beds. I'm trying to become more self-sufficient. Also just planted some willow and hazel for wood fuel.

Next in the plan is a chicken coop, rhubarb and cherry bushes. Long term plans are to buy a few acres/hectares to make a proper small holding/croft

I know all about this guy! I had two of them fighting it out on my front patio at 1:20 in the morning.
Only took one round from the shotgun to convince them to take their argument elsewhere.
              Cheers, Rick H.

Thanks so much guys! Si you nailed it a slice of heaven I used to work this little 5 acre farm I had Chickens, Turkeys, Hogs, Cows, Goats Yes Alan Rabbits. My arthritis started getting worse about 10yrs ago and I had to slowdown then my last Jersey Cow died suddenly of old age I think she was like a dog so gentle I miss her still today then what goats I had wild dogs killed then so I sold what chickens I had and quit Then about 2 years ago I bought some baby chickens and started raising them and started gardening again I wasn’t going let this arthritis and misfortune get me down anymore. Last year was the best garden I raised in 20yrs. My little place is not the farm I once had but I’m happy with it year round. I took some pics around the place when I got home from work today. I live in the foothills of the ozark mountains in Missouri

Great thread Lee.....looks like you got lucky after you got unlucky, and that’s just how it should be.....good that you caught the burglar when he was still wearing his mask as well :thumb2:
We are just about to make a similar change, albeit on a smaller scale. Just accepted an offer on our urban house and are looking for something rural with space for veggies, chickens, and fruit trees.....I’m retiring in a few weeks as well....
