Yesterday I got a little more done on the chicken pen and let them out while sat close guard because there was a sparrow hawk flying around all day. Next weekend putting the top on and fixing the bottom to be Predator proof.

          Hi Lee
Most people don't realise that chickens are great fun and make great pets for children. Not exactly the Einsteins of the bird world but great fun.

                Another great up date Lee.
My time flies, just look how those chicks have grown since you first had them.

The soil looks very light, dusty , no doubt the trees take the water. See you have to water like we do, your tomatoes look fine, in fact very healthy, and fruit too. Had to grow ours from seed this year as not going into shops.
                Keep these photos coming please.

John. Thanks for the complement. Yes it’s been very dry. I chose this spot where the trees are for the evening shade the garden gets lots of sun in the morning till early afternoon then it’s shaded. The Green Beans can grow in the shade as well as the lettuce. I bought those plants early this spring from the Amish about 30 miles from my house the have a store out in the country there. Those Chickens are growing fast

I could try and grow tomatoes up here but the cold last too long into the spring (i'm 620ft up on the side of a moutain.....and it's Scotland ). So i'd have to start them off in a greenhouse/polytunnel. Cannot afford one of them yet so i'll have to wait to grow them.

That aside. My french beans and runner beans are growing well. Even my kale has come through lol.

                      Hi Lee
That all looks to be growing well. You can't beat fresh fruit and veg. Tomatoes just off the vine are a complete revelation compared to the chilled, hardly ripe, imported things sold in supermarkets where uniformity is of more importance than taste. There was a pack of tomatoes in Morrisons the other week and it said on the pack "Grown for flavour" - what else!!! :rolling:

Alan. Thanks for stopping by no offense I never liked French green beans my mom and dad did but I didn’t

Jim. Thanks for the complement yeah I know what you mean about those store bought tomatoes last winter my wife bought home a couple from the store that was hard as rock and a little Unripe so I put it in the window in the sun hoping it would ripe up I left it there for a month and it never did and was still hard as it was the first day she brought it home. If you put a home grown one in a window It’s ripe with in days and firm the food we put in our body’s these days unbelievable

Nothing wrong with disliking something Lee. I hate broad beans. My mum n dad loved them lol.

I harvested my first veg last night. A load of radishes. Nice and crunchy.

What is your climate like there Lee? How late do you generally get frosts?

Alan. My radishes did fair well this year I think the seed was to old and I planted to early. Most years the last frost is in mid April this year the last frost was about the first of May I just planted my tomatoes I covered them for two night and they did fine. The summers are kinda hot and humid from now till last of September then about late November till the first of April it’s cold

My wife’s Tiger Lilly’s are in full boom now. When we made this Flower bed we when down the road to her Grandparents old homestead and dug these up and planted them at the end of our driveway. I’m glad she has something to remember them by every summer.
