i'm not really into computer games - other than the original Space Invaders!

Anybody who likes the Sniper Elite series of games may be interested to know that the backgrounds for Sniper Elite 5, which is due to be released this May, are Guensey. Yes honestly, the Island features in a video game.

Back in 2018 the production company's historiac adviser (Andy Robershaw) approached the Guernsey Military History Company which contacted Festung Guernsey to get access to some of the restored bunkers. In 2019 the production company returned with specialised camera and scanning equipment to film bunkers, locations and equipment.

Apparently, the pre-release advertising videos of the game show locations and backgrounds which are recognisable to anybody who knows Guernsey.

        Hi Lee

i understand that ghe games producers were particularly interested in the Naval HQ bunker ( the MNO bunker) and the MP towers which are very prominent along our south coast, and unique to the Channel Islands. Here is a link to an old thread in which i posted phtos of both the MNO bunker and one of the restored mp towers.

Computer games are like Marmite. You either love or hate!
I have better control of an air brush than a modern games controller!
Years ago I had a joystick controller that was much more intuitive, especially for air to air or space dog fighting. Shame there is not a modern version of a joystick available.

Aah, the old Quickshot 2 was a favourite of mine.

Problem is that type of controller only had 8 directions and one button, nowhere near enough for modern games.

I have a more up to date one, with about 6 buttons.... But it's still pretty old

The directionality isn’t much different from a game controller, as those generally have either a +-shaped control or four buttons for up/down/left/right, just like old digital joysticks had. Adding all those extra buttons modern game controllers have, though, would be more of a problem because you really need one hand to hold the joystick’s base, even the ones that had suction cup feet, in my experience.

Always liked my old Sidewinder joystick. It could do pitch, roll and yaw, along with a thumb driven hat switch that could be used for altering screen viewpoints during the games. It also had assignable buttons that could be set for various munition loads, and a throttle on the side. Just about perfect for flight games. Trouble was, it didn’t have a usb connector, so when I upgraded the PC it was no good :disappointed2: Never bought another for some reason….

Like some of the other guys, started on Commodore 64.
Now on Windows 10. Favourites are Sniper Elite, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts (1+2), Elite, MS Flight Sim X.
Generally get a quick fix of Sniper most evenings.

                        Noel,
I had the same lament until my wife, who is way brighter than me, bought me a Logitech X56 joystick/throttle combo. Highly recommend.
                        Regards,
                        John

Thanks John, I thought that joystick controllers had gone the way of the Dodo.
