Effective pre shading depends on a good airbrush technique with the top coat so as not to obliterate it. I must confess my "obliteration" record was pretty hopeless using acrylics but since moving over to MRP lacquer I'm doing much better. Looking good Tim.

It takes a light touch all right Jim. The big issue with acrylics is that they go on transparent, but dry more opaque so it’s very easy to overdo the painting. I find that happens even when painting the little blokes. Lacquers are better, but it’s still easy to overdo it. I find well thinned paint, with very good atomisation, and letting the thinner flash off before adding more paint, is the way to go.
Blue bits now done and masked off…..forgot to take pictures
Ready for the camo stuff, then off comes some of the masking (wing undersides are also masked) then it’s on to the mottling……?. You can probably just see the pencil lines I use to delineate camo areas. Once the lighter grey violet is on I will probably use more tape to mask the cam edges (have done this freehand in the past) and then do the grey green. I do it this way to try to keep a little of the panel lining. If I just spray the whole thing grey violet then mask off the grey green there will be far too much paint to see the black lines.
A very good point Tim. Preshade under camo. I've always sprayed all over with the lighter colour and then added the darker pattern and as you say that's a recipe for losing the preshade under the second colour. Never considered your idea but sounds good ?

It works (sometimes) Jim, though it does need more annoying masking up. I think that aircraft kits were invented to sell more masking tape LOL ?
Well, basic colours are now on….
Very slight overspray on the bulge below the yellow will be dealt with during detail painting……yellow was easy, pre sprayed with flesh colour first….a trick I learned on the little blokes…..
Quite happy with the mottling for a first time…..the V shaped blob by the tail is deliberate, it’s on the profile pic……I’m also sure later 190s we’re mottled with both the grey and the green, but this one is just shown with green mottling, so that’s all it got….
Details by brush next, then varnish and decals…..then final assembly…..
Cheers all
Tim
