Late to the party but I would like to say great work on that PE! (masochist).
It looks like a great kit but way to small for my fat (and numb) fingers.👍 1Comment

The airframe has now had a couple of coats of johnsons Klear ready for the decals. The spinner spiral I applied yesterday and I wasn't sure if these were the new fangled Eduard decals with the peelable carrier film . On looking at the spinner today once it has dried it seems they are - a careful lifting of the film with a scalpel blade and it peels off leaving the decal image . The problem here is that spinner spirals are notoriously unforgiving and the rather thick carrier film was reluctant to bend . After peeling off the film a fair bit of touching up was required , hopefully the rest of the decals will be better as they are going on relatively flat surfaces.
The other thing is that my usual method of applying decals will have to be changed for these . I usually give the model a couple of coats of Johnsons Klear , then when applying the decals brush a wet patch under the decal as I apply it . This sticks the decal better and avoids any silvering plus as the klear dries it pulls the decal down into any recessed detail without the need for decal solvent . My point is if I use this method the wet klear coat will stick the carrier film down so It will cause problems trying to peel it off . This means Im going to have to rely on the decal adhesive alone .

[QUOTE=Jim R;n1248589]Looking great. Interesting about the decals. How do you tell if the decals are the new peelable film? I'm definitely not looking forward to that spiral decal ?[/
The decals Ive got have quite an excessive , shiny carrier film Jim , not like Eduard decals Ive had in the past . The instructions dont mention anything about the decals either so its probably just a case of looking at yours and seeing what they look like , or trying an unwanted decal first , let me know what you find , cheers tony👍 1Comment

Started the decals this morning , thought I’d do the main ones first and see if the peelable film works . I applied the crosses on the wings and fuselage just using the decals own adhesive. I left them to dry for a good three or four hours then had a go at peeling the film off .The film came off but so did a lot of the decal , this put a temporary stop to the proceedings. After leaving the rest for a while it looked as though the ones that I didnt peel the film off were drying down quite nicely - the shiny carrier film seemed a lot thinner now it had dried.
I decided to apply the rest of the decals and stencils with my usual method of laying them on a bed of wet Klear.
Once everything had settled and dried I had to do a bit of touching up of the missing decals . A peculiar thing with the number 21 decal , the port side 2 is wonky - I thought it was a misprint on the decal but after looking at the instructions it seems its meant to be like that !
While im on the subject of instructions the usually excellent Eduard ones are a bit vague this time . The stencil placement diagram gives several options for a lot of the stencils ( black or white , red or blue etc ) but no clue as to which you should use . The warning triangles on the fuselage have three options but again no idea which is right ! So I just used a bit of common sense and guesswork. An unexpected bonus here is that the Airfix fw190 I’m doing with the spare option off the Eduard sheet can now use the extra stencils as the Airfix kit didnt come with any ?.
Heres the airframe after touching up the decals
