    Steve's 1/48 Eduard FW190A-5

Here is my offering for Alans memorial group build. The FW190 is one of my favourite fighter aircraft of WW2. I think this is also my first Eduard kit so I am looking forward to the experience.
At 1/48 there are plenty of parts to play with and the kit offers 4 different camo schemes. I have chosen the one flown by Maj Herman Graf and carries the red and yellow Tulip Motif on the engine cowl and rudder. Just hope I can do this justice in view of this memorial

Should be a great kit. Eduard kits are often excellent.

Well at last I have managed to get some bench time in and make a start of this project. I have been working on the cockpit area and wing assembly.

There are about 16 pieces including guns that make up the internals of the undercarriage bays. Some nice detail .

The kit comes with an option for a different design on the wheel wells depending on the camouflage design you choose. I misread the instructions and went for the one that requires a section to be cut out and the altered part inserting. There is a small gap at the top of this insert which you can see on the picture below. I wont close this gap just yet. Ill wait until the fuzz gets attached and then see where it naturally wants to sit.

Moving on I have joined the two wing halves together. They have gone together well and wont require much tidying and filling.

And finally some pictures of the cockpit and engine. Just need to prime and paint these before applying the usual instrument decals and then get all the parts installed into the fuzz.

Going well Steve. You won’t get any issues with the build. My A2 has a slightly different arrangement at the bottom of the cowling to yours, but I had to clip it a bit to get a good fit. It was the only issue I had with the build, and it was my fault because I attached the parts in the wrong order….?.

Managed a good session on the work bench today. Started the day off with a cockpit and ended up with something resembling a Focke Wulf.
No major issues which is why it went together quite quickly.

First pictures showing the fuzz interior assembly going in

Just as a matter of interest I used the supplied seat harness decals. Next shot is the two fuzz sides joined up.

I then went onto add the top gun and engine cowlings. They were a lovely fit.

I was on a roll so next up was to install the wing assembly. Here I met a small fit issue namely it wouldnt fit. If I located the wing into the two side slots that you will see arrowed in the picture below then the whole assembly was sitting about 1mm too far back meaning it didn't match up around the engine cowling area or underneath where it joined the fuzz before the rear tail section. The whole assembly needed moving a good 1mm forwards. Fairly easy fix, I just filled out the fuzz around side fittings and once they had enough gap I was able to move the assembly forward for make correct alignment

And now we have this. Just a small amount of filling to do but it should clean up nicely. All in all I am relatively happy with the overall fit.

Little more progress. Canopy attached and taped off ready for painting. Coat of primer applied after some very minor filling

Next was some pre shading. Some white highlight patches and marker pen panel lines added. I have to do it this way because my airbrush just doesnt like fine spraying.

Then I've applied first coat of color to the fuzz and underside. I will let that dry before making the decision to see if it needs any more adding. I always have a tendency to add to much paint and obliterate the pre shading
So this is where I am with it for now.
