Thanks for all the nice posts. Helps boost the mojo
Making progress. Mottles done and the armour plating below the cockpit painted.
Then there came the fun bit. There is a zig-zag black area below the cockpit/just above the wing. A decal is supplied but it only includes the top zig-zag part and so the rest of the black has to be painted. To my mind that would never work - matching black paint to the decal black.
This is the decal. Difficult to see but there is also a thin white line along the top.
So by tracing the decal and transferring the zig-zag to masking tape and then masking the rest I ended up with this.
Looks a bit of a mess but the edges were burnished down well with a Q-tip thingy and fingers were crossed and prayers were said!
To be honest I'm dead chuffed with the result
Now to figure out how to paint the thin white line along the top edge.
My usual glacial rate of progress will slow even more as I'm away for three weeks. I'll have no bench time but I'll be able to enjoy all your wonderful builds.
Hi Jim,
Apologise for not being here at the beginning and have read and seen the progress so far. My episode on Christmas eve pales compared to what you went through. good to know your good wife's leg is mending well.
In the meantime your build is looking great and very neat. It's always a pleasure when the kit fits like Lego. Love the paint work and mottling, masking decision turned out well and canopy idea, brilliant. If only other brands gave extra canopies to help with the masking. For the white dash, you only need four pieces of masking tape and you're done.
Happy holidays.
Looking sweet jim , top work with the masking. The black area behind the exhausts on mine was supplied as a decal too but like yourself I painted it . Youโll sort the white edge no problem , have a nice break , cheers tony
I'm sure most of you had forgotten this. It seems ages since I had any bench time. We often have times when "life gets in the way" of our hobby and this year has certainly been that way for me. I have just returned from 3 weeks of radiotherapy at the Christie hospital in Manchester, my daughter has just finalised her acrimonious divorce and hopefully had her last appearance at court, my granddaughter has recently been diagnosed as coeliac and my wife's broken leg is now 90% mended. I have been able to keep up with all your builds, a laptop in hospital waiting rooms, rented apartments in Manchester and sat around at my daughter's and in court lobby rooms definitely helps pass the time. I won't go into the expense but suffice it to say that ยฃ500 a week for an apartment in Manchester and ยฃ1000 every time my daughter's barrister appeared in court coupled with her solicitor's seemingly never ending bills sure puts a dent in one's savings.
Anyway that's all now, hopefully, in the past. I have masked and painted the white line above the black zig-zag and the white ring around the rear fuselage.
Things will progress better now, fingers crossed.
Life is definitely on the up now Tim. Thanks. The only negative recently is I got a speeding ticket!! Been driving for over 50 years with not so much as a parking ticket but last week one of those mobile cameras - unfamiliar road, 35 in a 30.

Last ticket I got was for 28 in a 20 zone. Didnโt realise the limit had changed from 30 because a van driver was parked in front of the sign on the left and a lorry was passing me on the rightโฆ.pure bad luck. The speed awareness course I attended was only about a fiver less than the fine, but at least it saved the three pointsโฆโฆI did learn that more drivers lose their licenses in 20 zones than anywhere else though, because if you hit forty there itโs apparently an automatic ban for going at twice the speed limit.
