After giving the model a coat of johnsons Klear yesterday I got the decals on today . I used the Airfix sheet and spares box for the crosses and the spare Eduard decals for the unit markings and stencils . The decals were laid onto a wet patch of klear to aid adhesion and reduce the chance of silvering . Its now drying down so tomorrow I can give both the 190s a couple of coats of matt to seal everything in and give a nice finish , then its a case of fitting all the last bits .

In parallel with the Eduard ,this has now had the guns and cannons fitted using brass tubing. Its also received the exhaust staining , in the case of German machines in WW2 a dark brown as their aviation fuel was derived from coal - allied aircraft often have a black / light grey staining due to the lead content and higher octane . Ive also added a litlle light chipping on the port wingroot as pictures of this aircraft show this .

Nearing the end now , its just a case of all the final little details to add . Ive painted the guns and pitot and had a look at the DF loop and aerials . The Airfix kit doesnt supply any of these so time to scratch . The DF loop was made from fuse wire wrapped round a suitably sized rod and the Morane antenna ( the one that looks like a hockey stick under the wing ) was made from a wooden stirring stick with another bit of thinner fuse wire stuck on . The whip aerial behind the DF loop will be a toothbrush bristle . From pictures ive seen it looks as if the Morane antenna was made from wood so I dont even have to paint it ?.
I dont know if its because its for Alan or what but I’m really chuffed with how these two are turning out , I hope he would be too .

DF loop , whip aerial and Morane antenna now fitted . The Morane antenna has been left unpainted as these were just varnished wood on the actual aircraft . Next is fitting the canopy - the aerial wire on these early canopies was tensioned to stay taut even when the canopy was open , passing through on rollers but photos of this particular machine show the wire slack so it must have been disabled and fixed rigid . I also gave the fuel tank a black front and a lot of oil stains as seen in this pic of the aircraft ( note , personal wording not yet applied at this point )👍 2Comment
