    What is a SIG build?

    Hey,

As you know I'm quite new here and to model building (20+ years drift means I'm new)

I just seen a recent post about SIG builds and seen the graph of what is upcoming.

Can anyone join these? What are the rules based around it (other than the topic)?

    Thanks in advanced

basically its a gang of people building something of a shared theme and sharing the experience

      any one can join in

only rules really are the start and finish time

they are fun most of the time

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

....but the finish time can be relaxed - and usually is!

        A G.B. - Group Build.

        A S.I.G. - Special Interest Group.

        A S.S.I.G. - ?!

As far as I'm concerned, there doesn't seem to be a difference in any of them. To my way of thinking, we are just doing Group Builds under different titles.

I know how S.I.G.s operate elsewhere - 'a specialist build for individuals who concentrate on just that particular type of modelling'.

But here, it's a voted for, free for all...........and I love it!!

I thought S.S.I.G was Super Special Interest Group Build?

If you wanted to take it seriously, and do we want serious? No. But if you did, a Group Build should reflect a general subject. For example, the Modern Jets. Although it ties the subject down a bit, it is still quite general.

A Special Interest Group Build should be fairly subject specific. For example, FW190. This leaves the option of kit and Mk but some SIGs tie it down even further and specify the scale etc. One SIG I often marvelled at at many shows was the 1/72 Spitfire SIG (not sure who ran it now) but a full eight or more feet of table festooned with beautifully built 1/72 Spitfires is a joy to behold (even though I prefer Hurricanes to Spitfires )

As Graham pointed out, the SIG builds on here are a bit different to the normal.

When Graham started the Group builds on here, they where very specific and a good few took part. now all these years later they have evolved into what they are today where we have

GB the Group builds, which are normally shorter in length and fairly open in subject.

SIG the Special Interest Builds on this forum are aimed more in the direction of giving more time so the builders can make it a bit more special, hence the name-

SSIG is just the same but runs for the whole year. And is normally a big subject or complex build... or both.
