A bit of progress. Wanted to try and fill the gap between the cockpits, so I've chucked some odd boxes, gauges and wiring in. Probably horribly over scale but should do the job once it's painted up. Also started making some framing form the centre piece . The one shown is the forward most one, I think the rear is just a plain arch. If anyone knows any different, please let me know ! Are they frames for the canopies Neil? That void between the cockpits is nicely filled.

It's official, I'm mental.........I've just started masking the inside of the canopy !! The reputation of this kit goes from bad to worse, with the option of a closed canopy out of the window due to a rather less than perfect fit. So I'm going to spray the innards matt black-ish. The saving grace is that it seems a relatively straight forward job, apart from the front piece.

I'm really, really, really not looking forward to the paint job - I'm already thinking about alternative schemes.....we'll see.

Oh, and Joe, the frames are for the middle piece, between the two canopys. Not sure that its the same arrangement on all Phantoms, but I have good photo reference for mine.

        Cheers, Neil

Back again !! OK, so canopies masked. Due to the bad/odd fit, I'm having to do the pilot/rio glass off the airframe. A bit of a pain, but there you are. Shown with the first coat of black on for the inner frames/seals, it's now all ready for a first coat of primer.

Also modded the burner cans a little, along with correcting the front gear bay door.

Hi all, sorry for the delay, but here's a bit of catch-up. Most is self explanatory. Opened the gap on the hook, only to find it looked a bit stupid, so cut it and remounted it. Addressed the small forward intake. I was trying to ignore it, but it didn't go away, and in the end wasn't as bad to fix as I thought it was going to be.

The rest is just paint really. The metal work at the back is a bit basic, but it's come out ok and I'm quite happy with it.

So, topcoat is going on, so if nothing else, it'll look shiny !!

                  Cheers, Neil

To be fair, it's about the best bit of the kit, Dave. I've added a little to the front leg, but nothing to the rears. The overall external detailing is quite good, but you just loose a load of it sorting out the bad fit!! As it happens, I've just done the decals to the front canopy and found it's actually lop-sided, which kinda explains why it doesn't fit properly......

I read in one of the mags that the Fumiji Phantom range is going to be made available in this country again, and apparently had a good reputation..........I wonder if I got the " Friday afternoon " limited edition?????

                      Cheers, Neil

Nicely done Neil, you're seeing this pig of a kit off in great fashion. MIne still sits idle and top side unpainted, not enough hours in ther day with work and now I am dragged out house hunting.

Hi all, just a quick update. As you can see, I've got a bit of colour on it at last !!! They needed a bit of work, but I have to say the decals went on a lot better than I was expecting. The only real problems I had were around the nose cone and the fairing underneath, but that was only to be expected. I've got a bit of touching up to do in places, but then it should be onto the final bits and pieces - I think the end may be in sight!!!!

                          Cheers, Neil

Looks very good Neil. You'd never guess there was a bad kit under that super paint scheme. You've worked wonders with it.
