Built the "wings" and added the tower (after installing the lights inside) and added window "frames" most of them are "lit" the others will be blackened out when painted.
I tried spraying a spare bit of balsa and painting the windows on, this frame idea seems to give it a more 3d effect and i think makes the detail stand out more. I have also added windows more areas of the tower than is indicated on most images, found a computer generated model on a sci-fi forum and i liked the look so have based the window design partly on this.... don't look too bad me-thinks.
Completed the main bulk of the underside and made a battery compartment (the lid is resting next to the model) used tiolet roll tubes for the base of the thrusters, will add more surface detail later.
OK then ... have come acros the situation now (earlier than i expected) that the model bits have to be put together so i can add the "joining" details (such as butress pieces, angled bits, main tower front bit etc etc ... note i still don't have the correct terminology at hand )
It's ....errrrrm .... a bit big when it in one piece !!
Now to get on and add all the little details on and around the ship, think it might be best if i work on it section by section, that way when one's done ... it's done.
Have added some detailing and given it a quick spray in it's finished colour so as to see what and where it needs the detaling enhancing/changing/adding.
looking brilliant that mate allthough i must admit to never watching the program,i am currently watching andromeda, now if someone could build that ship,i would be really impressed.nice job mate.
I've not seen the programme so I've no idea how close this is to the original. Doesn't matter to me 'cos that's a super looking space ship! You going to be adding any more surface details?
Will be adding some more detailing ... just thought a coat of paint would help me see where they need to go (its hard when there's so many different colours and textures from all the odds and sods .. you sort of get lost)
There's a few ariels and some more majour structure on the wings and then it's a roll of soldering wire and some stripped bell wire for all the pipework that seems to join the different structures together ... thats a job an' arf
There's so many tweaked and adjusted versions of this ship on t'interweb (as well as the program actually changing the design slightly through the series) so this is more like a model based on the original with a little artistic interpretation
Hi Colin i would say they would be very dirty , lots of space dust/junk flying around , and then theres all the battles they seam to get into not a nice place space
i was sort of thinking along them lines Ian, maybe a heavy black wash with a dry brushing of silver to highlight the raised surfaces, try to get it to look like space dust has worn it away.
