Its great when the magic happens Looking forward to seeing the foliage you create. Seems like forever since I last built a landscape dio... oh wait yes it was, it was way back last summer!
Hey John boy, where y'all been bro., you bin' hunt'n charlie down?........Hows that for 'nam speak John?!
I've done a bit more work with the water:-
After I was happy with the stuff on the river bed, I managed to find some thin plastic sheet the missus had some towels packed in, and bedded a suitable piece into the contours of the pond. I kept this above the bed of the water course by about 5mm, this gave it some nice, natural depth perspective. I then sealed it into place using some more adhesive. One thing I noticed when it was drying, trapped condensation formed on the underside of the 'surface'. I made a couple of small holes in the plastic with a hot pin and this allowed the moisture to escape. This water method is so simple, costs nothing, doesn't smell and adapts to any water surface you want. But be warned..leave little vent holes!
I also wanted some trailing vines to hang here and there and came up with this:-
Nick some green cotton from the wife, and with something around 2" across (I used a rule) wrap the cotton around a few times. Carefully take the loop off and glue the loop at one end. When dry, cut the loop at the unglued end, this will leave you with an upside down 'U' shape. trim one or two ends so they are not all the same length, damp the thread and twist the ends. This opens up the fibres so you don't get a blund end to the hanging vines....Job done!
Here are a few shots of the above. The pictures don't really show how the plastic gives the water depth and reflections, but I am very happy with the real thing!
Next up will be the waterfalls....I don't want bloody great, thunderous ones, just a gentle cascade....Bless!
Plenty to do yet, but I hope you approve of progress thus far, and thanks for looking,
Thanks fellas for the great posts on this build, all good stuff....
Here's my go at a waterfall.
Having never attempted moving water before, I had a play with various materials until I tried this one.....Take one very small bore hosepipe.....
I'm totally and utterly chuffed to bits how it came out. Ahm Smokin'! It even has a reflection and at last the depth of the pool can be seen more clearly!
Bit more to do on the splash, the pool and the exit stream, but I'm well happy thus far.....
