Slow and steady. Cockpit done and fitted with the fuselage closed up. The camera has picked up a few areas to touch up. I dry fitted the wings and the joins look okay but they take a bit of wrestling to fit nicely.

That's looking good Rick. You're beating it into shape nicely.

Wings on, there's some filling to be done but no massive gaps at the wing roots to battle only at the leading edges and belly to lower fuselage join.

Tail planes fitted and a load of filler applied.

A good question and I'd love to know the answer. I understand how the 'quick release' system on a Sutton harness held all the straps together...like this:

But have never seen that disc thing on any surviving examples.

Some more work today with the exhausts being fitted with the replacement part from Airfix. I used part of the engine gearbox for the propeller mount that has been partly assembled ready for priming and paint. The gap between the two frames forward of the cockpit are nothing worry about, these will be closed up or covered by the cowling.

And I got the paint needed from SNMStuff this week.

Engine cowling fitted, those in to wind edges are just awful. I masked her up tonight ready for primer and a first lick of paint.

Primer done and a bit of filler smoothed out under the engine then a coat of Vallejo Pale Blue. I don't think much of this pre-shading malarkey. The propeller blades and spinner have been done too, the red looks quite vibrant.

I also have trouble with it Rick. Post-shading is probably a better way to go. Dave, Steve, Barry and others have had some fantastic finishes using post shading.

I use both pre and post shading and, I have to say Rick, that preshaded underside is looking good to me. A panel-line wash will set that off a treat.

Underside masked, I just need to edge seal here and there with Maskol for a bit of added protection. Building 1/24 scale planes consumes a lot of masking tape!

I've taken to using plastic wrap (the food cling film stuff) on larger surfaces and the edges in Tamiya tape. I started doing that when I realised I needed to order some more tape. You just have to ensure you don't pierce or rip the wrap plastic.

Canopy masked. I had some issues with this. At first I sprayed all the glazing with Humbrol Clear which resulted in fogging and speckles. After washing it all off and polishing out the worst bits I coated it in Johnson's Klear and got a superb result. Humbrol Clear is most definately relegated to sealing cockpit decal from now on.

As Barry says, the underside pre-shading looks good. I do pre-shade and sometimes it doesn't work, but post shading is always there to save the day !

Have you considered not masking under the wings at all?

I mask under the fuselage and any areas sticking out (such as the rad) that will catch overspray when I shoot the sides of the model, but with the wings I just shoot down and get a good delination between upper wing and lower wing colour that way.
