    Airfix 1\72 Dambusters Lancaster

Hi all, this is my entry for the four engined ( bomber ) aircraft group build.

It's not terribly exciting, I give you, which is why I'm going to attempt to display it in a (hopefully) interesting manner.

My idea is to pose it in flight, at the actual point of releasing its Upkeep mine. The plan is to use 2 conical shaped clear rods, representing the searchlights used to maintain the correct height required, to act as supports for the aircraft. Now to be honest, this is a recent idea so I haven't figured out all the details, but I "think" its do-able......we'll just have to see how it pans out !!!!

Anyway, box and sprue shots away......

The last pic show the bomb aimer pinched from the Revell Halifax, which was handy!

Shouldn't be too difficult. Someone at my local IPMS did the same.

Thanks for that Rick, at least it can be done, then !!!

To be honest, I'm not too bothered about the dam, Dave, I think I've got enough on my plate

Nice choice Neil, I too will watch with interest. As an aside, the last surviving pilot from the Dams Raid, Squadron Leader Les Munro, is selling his medals to help upkeep the central London RAF Memorial.

Squadron Leader Les Munro, now the only surviving pilot of the legendary Dambusters raid, is to auction his gallantry medals to help pay for the upkeep of Britain’s recently built memorial to the 55,573 airmen killed in the war

The use of the straws is clever! How about lighting them up?

The thought of lighting had crossed my mind. I don't really want to complicate the model itself too much, but I might try and see what it looks like with the light source from the "ground" up...

Hi all. Apologies for not being around much, but modelling time has been in short supply lately!!!

Anyway, I've finally found some time to get stuck in, and some bit together. The pics pretty much say it all. I've added the Eduard zoom set, and have have a mask set and replacement gun barrels waiting in the wings.

The last pic is a rough idea of how the crew members will be arranged - Flt Lt McCartjy has already started to be modified!!!!

                      Cheers, Neil

Nice work so far Neil. Lots of switches and bits in that cockpit.

Hi all. So, body is now together and complete with tailplanes. The only changes I've made are to open up the hatches on the top of the fuselage and to thin down the edges of the front bomb bay fairings for a better scale appearance. I've skipped ahead a little and started working on the bomb bay as I figure it would be easier to do this without the wings on. So far, so good.

The only problem I've had was forgetting to open up the mounting holes for the mine support arms, but luckily that was a pretty easy fix.

Note to self - read the bloody instructions!!!!

                              Cheers, Neil
