Since those of us doing the starter set GB are pretty fed up with the paints, and the brush(es), how about another GB, using any starter set, and any tools/techniques you would usually use?
Pete
So basically you are suggesting a GB where you can build anything.....
The whole point with the original GB was the challenge...
No, it would have to be a starter kit. A chance to see how restrictive the paint, glue and brush of the starter kit is, and how good some of these kits really are.
That might work IF you had two models - one completed using the kit resources, and one using all techniques & materials ( but no PE or am decals )
Dave
The thing is that the starter kits are 99.9% of the time an ordinary production kit just a different box and some glue and paint. Some of them are even new tooled kits!
Yes, but several of us have built the starter sets and complained, so why not see how good a model can be built from them without the supplied glue, paints and brush?
Pete
Hi Peter
I certainly intend building another Vampire. It is a lovely kit and I feel that I haven't really done it justice. The kit in the starter set is also available in two other boxes. Exactly the same kit but no glue or paints and makes into different variants - just different decals.
The things I missed most. A decent paint brush for detail painting. The airbrush. Gloss varnish. Microsol. My usual EMA Plastic Weld. Colours to allow the pilots to be used. Oils for a panel line wash. I am sure other things would be used as well. No PE, extra decals or resin aftermarket stuff is fair enough but I would use some Tamiya tape for seat belts!

Even though I couldn’t join in ( I came very close!) I think it’s a great idea! A comparison Gb showing how it was done then to how it is done now!:smiling4:
I've been thinking about this and have a suggestion or two.
If Peter agrees we could extend the existing GB so all those that build a starter kit using all the starter kit paint etc. Can then build the same model but with all the bells, whistels and flashing lights you can throw at it.
You could then post them both together in the finished build.
So we would't need 10 people to sign up then Ian? If t'other Peter agrees that is.
I agree with the suggested rules - no PE or aftermarket parts, but use whatever tools/paints/glues you like?
