Bowcat's King Tiger with Henschel turret, Meng 1/35

This came yesterday, but as it was my youngest 7th birthday i didn't get to look at it until now.

What's in the box pics.

There's quite a lot of plastic, and a nice metal barrel and some PE. There's also a couple of forming tools, for the tracks and PE.

So far it looks good and shouldn't need much cleanup.

Right then, time to start on the wheels.

Rather lurid coloured styrene there! I guess Meng are thinking red oxide primer

It all looks quite modular, with many separate pieces. I confess I was initially horrified by what seemed to be a thick raised area around the driver/radio operator hatches.... then I realised that Bob had photographed the back of the parts! ops:

Wheels are done. Sanding the centre caps was tedious.

I decided to paint the inside of the rims first as i thought it might be easier than trying to get paint in later.

Not had much modelling time of late, so progress has been slow.

I have to say, I'm loving this kit. It fits together so well there are no gaps, and i could probably get away without glue.

very nice looking kit,Bob,do like the PE,and metal barrel,
very nice start,I always start with the wheel, get them painted, before,
moving onto the lower hull, find it a lot easy and saves time,
looking good so far,nice work,

Coming along nicely Bob. You can see how Meng have thought out the kit, leaving provision for their interior kit.

Cheers guys.

Ran into a little fit problem tonight getting the engine deck fitted, most likely because i didn't glue the inner brace in quite perfectly. Nothing that a little bit of sanding didn't fix.

I've also ordered a few goodies from John which should hopefully arrive tomorrow. I'm going to try my hand at filters and dot filters on this one.

Hi Bob just caught up with this big cat and yes I'll be tagging on to the end.
Looks a nice kit abd quite a lot more in the box than Tamiya ( according yo some mine is an old kit ) o_O
I do like the colour of the plastic but strange when your going to prime it all up anyway?
So far it looks really swell ( don't you just love all those wheels??

Regards

Robert

Cheers Rob. Yes, wheels in a AFV are always fun.

Just thought I'd say that if you do dot filters or oil rendering, make sure you use a mild thinner. Definitely not basic white spirit! A low odour product works best IMHO.

Patrick, would the Revell aqua colour thinner be ok, i think they sell that?

interested to see if your kit has the problem with the suspension arms /wheel alignment that most have come across. i.e. not square to the tank

Steve, it does. The wheels toe in, I'm planning on adding some weight to force the suspension arms to flex up. It's a shame as the fit of the rest of the parts is fantastic.
