    Patrick's 1/72 Airfix Lightning F2A

Here's my entry for Ian's GB after he shamelessly browbeat me into joining! only kidding!

It's the same kit as Joe, so I'll be watching his closely for tips!

The decals are rather extensive for a 1/72 kit

    Cheers

Well I've read that there's a few fit problems with this kit Joe, but hopefully some bodging will overcome them!

Made a start with both wings, rear burner assemblies & nose bits.

But on further inspection, joining the fuselage will be a nightmare! There are massive projecting ejection pin marks inside each fuselage half that prevent it joining without gaps.
I think these will have to be sanded down first.

The fit issue I had with this kit was at the nose, I found the intake trunking outside diameter pushed the fuselage halves apart so filed off material from the trunking and inside of the fuselage, note that I had this on one of the Lightnings I built, the other was ok.

You can read about it here - http://www.scale-models.co.uk/thread...ning-f6.24710/
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

You're spot on! I've removed the ejection pin marks & the fit is much better.

Thanks Tony, I think I'm going to go with the box art scheme - I'm not confident about tackling a full NMF yet!

I reckon the box art scheme is attractive, was thinking about it myself...

As mentioned above, I had to file my air intake down to close the fuselage. All good fun but no drama.
Now then Patrick, this 1:72 Lighting is the perfect size and subject for a nmf (well, maybe a little P51 would be better )
                        Go for it.........
