I've been confused over that Radar assembly! It's included in my Mk VI kit, but can't find ANY references with it fitted to one at all.... So I've left it off!
Not sure if that was the right thing to do at all really.... But too late now!! :smiling3:
    Andy

You're welcome and glad to be of assistance - and I think you were right to leave it off from what I've found.

My kit is apparently a scaled down version of yours although I don't get pilots like you do. It actually caused me a bit of worry for a while because the official Tamiya Mk XIII doesn't have it separately. However, the indicator/display unit in the kit has a box of sorts underneath that this kit doesn't and according to the Haynes manual (which has the above picture) states:

"The receiver unit (bottom) was hinged to allow it to be stored in the space below the indicator to enable the crew to enter and exit the cockpit via the door at the right." (pg 60)

My assumption is that the Tamiya Mk XIII has it moulded in the 'stowed' position......at least I hope so.

    ATB.

The FB didn’t have the Radar kit in the few references I’ve found, and Tamiya give it as an option for the NF version, but not the FB version, so I’ve left mine off. After all, why would a day fighter bomber need expensive and probably relatively rare night fighting radar…..
Something I’ve noticed is that everyone has done the seat in green, but the 360 I posted on the chat thread at the start of the GB has it in black, so I’ve gone with black. Pity Tamiya didn’t include the seat cushion, but I forgot to make one so it’s going without
Lastly, there are a few photos around of a bare bomb bay, showing what I assume are fuel tanks, but I have found virtually none showing the bomb racks in place, so I’ve more or less gone with the Tamiya scheme. At least I only have to worry about half of it, the front half will stay buttoned up and full of canon.

Yours is looking super, by the way Andrew. Very tidy indeed.
Thanks Tim glad you're liking it. And you're right about the destructions and the radar, mine are the same.

As for the seat I completely forgot about the walk around....gone back to check it but the link's broken.....I've still got time to change it to black if I'm careful..... :cold-sweat: :cold-sweat:

Green is probably more accurate. The 360 example has an a different joystick arrangement as well so may well be a later build.
Link here, by the way. There are lots of aircraft on the site.

Thanks!! They must have changed the links as it worked first time.

As for the difference in the joystick, I think that is down to it being a bomber or PRU variant.

What I have noticed from a lot of photos and especially models is that the fighter-bomber versions have the same joystick as me. The bomber/PRU versions all seem to have the one in the walk around.

Thanks Scottie!! I'm pretty pleased with it myself. Wasn't sure I could pull off the could I knobs at 1/72.

                            Morning all

So with the cockpit almost finished - pics to follow hopefully later today - I have been plodding on with the pilot and navigator and have of course used the forum-famous 'Marlow Method'**.

These resin figures are by a Belgian company called PJ Productions (link HERE) that does a range of resin AM parts and kits. I used their German pilots in my 109 builds and to be honest I think they were better.

Maybe it was because the German flight uniforms were less complex but the sculpt/casting was much better defined than with these RAF crew. This made it hard to read in places and so I don't think they're my best work but all closed up you won't see much of the detail........at least that's my excuse!

I still have to attach the arms but I have deliberately left them off as I want to put the joystick in the hand of one of them.

My initial thought is to use the figure looking to his right as the pilot. His arm and especially hand look to be in a better position/shape for connecting with the joystick and if I'm right, it almost look like he's glancing over his shoulder at the navigator - maybe for one final check before the engines are started?

                            ACW as usual.

                            ATB

                            Andrew

** For those new the forum and not familiar with the 'Marlow Method', our very own Tim Marlow did a brilliant small scale figure painting SBS four years ago (can't believe it was that long!!!) that helped get the figure painting monkey off my back - details HERE.

                            --------------------------------------------------------------

                            A 'distance' shot....look ok.....

Close up scale shot....not quite so pretty.....

Nice work Andrew. They will be really happy in the cockpit of your mossy. By the way, the SBS was slightly less than two years ago…..December 2020 if I recall correctly Flattered by the comments though.

You're right about the date but I checked two or three times this morning before I posted and it definitely said April 2018......or at least I'm sure it did..... Which I should have clocked as being wrong because I only joined in Autumn 2020......

Just checked and it did say April 2018.... At least against the date you joined!!! DOH!!!!

                                Thanks again.
