Colin, Glad you like the harness, it's the first time I've attempted to make one, the wing dihedral looked about right, so it was more about making sure nothing moved whilst the glue hardened off.

And a few more hours at the bench and we have some invasion stripes....I'm not 100% happy with them, the measurements might be a bit off in places, and I've overdone the chipping in some places.....nothing that a quick touch up wont cure, I figure they'll look better after the weathering that's to come....

Also managed to spray matt black all over my watch strap...took ages to clean that off.....lol

            Chris,
If I recall, all the D-Day stripes were applied to all the aircraft involved in the space of two days, and I bet some of the paint jobs wouldn't bear close scrutiny! - and I bet only the best paint jobs had photos taken!
            Going very well!! :thumb2:

Yeah buddy, it literally went together with no probs whatsoever, i would advise folk do plenty of dry fitting before nailing these bits together,
glad you like the paintwork, first time i've ever done invasion stripes....quite a way away from doing armour.. :tongue-out3:

Thanks Dave... It's good to know i wasn't totally out of the park with how they ended up looking,

funny thing is though I did read somewhere that most of the invasion stripes on aircraft were removed within a month of D-Day, and yes it seems that only the Sqd leaders and other higher ranks had perfectly painted Stripe, whilst the 'regular' aircraft were just, for want of a better word, slapped on...

Slapped on is the word. I’ve read memoirs where yard brushes and whitewash were used, especially on the big stuff like Dakotas. Later on they became part of the standard markings, but only on the bottom half of the aircraft. My Mark XII is going to have those markings…..

As a matter of interest, I've lust checked on prices for the ICM 1/48 Spitfires - even RRP is £14.99, and by shopping around can be found cheaper. As such, for a 1/48 aircraft must be the best value model at the moment!!

Great paint job. I really like the distressed look of the invasion stripes.

After a weeks break from this..(bloody work), the decals are finally on, I must say that despite seeing various comments around the web about ICM's decals being a pig to work with, I found them the easiest decals I've ever done, they might be a tad thick, but they settle down beautifully with just a touch of micro set....If i had to find one issue it would be that their decal placement guide is a little bit lacking ..but a quick wander around the web and problem solved....

One question though, would the fuel filler cap on the upper fuselage be the same colour as the body or would it have been another colour ? maybe something like aluminium..ish ?
