Cheers John.
Done quite a bit in 1/35 over the years, but am a bit off the pace these days. I do like the fact that the finish can be got simply with paint and don’t need to worry about protective varnish. However, this one has very large transfers on the outside so I will need gloss varnish assistance there.
To be honest, I worked extensively in 1/76 for the whole of my railway modelling days (about 15 years) so the 28mm guys also seemed quite big for a while.Comment

This is lovely, Tim. The wear and tear is just perfect - understated to a tee and completely convincing. You're using very different painting techniques at this scale, I guess?Comment

Painting techniques do make more use of the airbrush for the underlying paint, but I still use the brush and washes quite a lot, and do dry brush sometimes. More wet on wet work here though, usually dilute paint into moistened areas so the paint diffuses nicely and I minimise the hard edges. Also use pigments here because the finished item won’t be handled much. As usual though I pretty much just push paint around until I’m happy with itComment

Blanco was not an issue item generally but a private purchase from the NAAFI, only occasionally on deployment would the QM take limited stock (anticipating a bigwig parade perhaps), Lots of desert images show webbing as very light coloured due to scrubbing with soap or Vim and then sun-drying! There were various colours which included post-war maroon (Para Regt), Black (Armoured Regts), White (Provost and ceremonial) and even a lovely light blue for the Crabs (sorry, RAF!). The most common shades were No. 7 (Buff), No. 3 (Khaki Green or No, 9 (a pale Green). Incidentally, the brass fitting on '37 Patt Eqpt. was not originally meant to be polished but, in accordance with the prevalent military diktats 'If it moves - salute it - if it doesn't paint it or polish it!'

Something that supports Katy’s painted windscreens……not limited to the film it seems, but it’s the only other one I’ve seen….
Interesting that they are all different sizes, and the second and third ones are not even square (I know they are different vehicles)…..front vehicle cab and body seem to be slightly different colours as well….Comment

Moving on from blanco then….not forgotten you all……
Started putting the cab together…
Slight fit issue with this, the roof sides were not quite vertical but I’m hoping the clamps tame it. Big roof next, so I’m hoping there aren’t any issues with that…..
Painted window surrounds done and cab front fitted….…..managed to break off the window surrounds forcing the cab front on….hoping it won’t be too noticeable once I finish.
I’ll get the rest of the rear body done next, and then fill any small gaps if I think they need it before paint. While that is going on I’ll paint the detail on the chassis, not too much, exhaust pipe, engine and a shadow wash with a few oil stains. I can then unite the body and chassis before working up the bonnet area. Able to see the finish line now, but that means the big Red Cross transfers are starting to loom a little large in the to do window…..I’m going to practice on the rear doors. They will be left open, so will be hidden against the side if they all go horribly wrong…..
Cheers all
