Dave Wards 1/48 Zvezda Sukhoi Su-2

I;ve been occupied bymy 3D printing, and I find that I've hardly made any kits this year, so, after my presentmodel parts have finished printing, I;m going to crck the box on this:

It's been sitting in my stash for a couple of years, and the GB seems to be the ideal time to blow the dust off it & find my bottle of Contacta.
I'll be putting up the usual sprue, instructions etc tomorrow, I hope

Nice choice dave , its a good kit by all accounts , just a bit of a glitch with the engine cowling , its way too open at the front edge apparently. There are aftermarket cowlings to correct this but maybe you could put your 3d expertise to the test and print your own ?looking forward to seeing this one , cheers tony

Not being a rivet counter & not being familiar with the plane, I think I'll let things pan out straight from the box........................

but the Dauntless didn't have a turret! If you'd said Avenger, I'd have agreed! :tongue-out:

Comes in the usual Zvezda box-in-a-box, the back of the box has rather uninspiring pics of an assembled unpainted model

All sprues are clean & crisp, no flash, or sink marks, ejector pins in hidden places.
Instructions - usual Zvezfa b&w folded paper sheets, they need careful study, but everything is there

I don't think these workaday aircraft had many additional markings.
Options are, open bomb bay, or bombs under wings - cockpit & turret open or closed.
Not a well known aircraft, over 900 were built, but were obsolute by 1942
Looks well engineered, the only area that may cause problems is the turret glazing, but I think that when you have the bits in your hand it may become apparent.

As you say Dave, the detail looks very nice..... I particularly like the aircrew figures :thumb2: .....something that seems to get neglected often:sad-face:.

That looks rather a nice kit Dave. Those rivets on the wing are definitely prominent but their appearance may well tone down with painting and weathering.

That's looking like a good kit there Dave.

Will look forward to seeing this come together. Thanks for taking part.

Wing halves joined - pretty good fit, but I doubt if that pitot tube will last the course!
Engine - no less than 22 parts, the fit is good, but definitely a tweezer & hold your breath assembly. primed ready for detail paint
I have to decide whether to have the turret open, and the rear decking raised, or the turret closed & the rear decking lowered ( similar to the Defiant ). You have to decide early, as the bits fit inside the fuselage - one of those things to ponder over.
                            Dave
