Welcome to Geoff’s D-Day 80th Anniversary tribute chat thread.
I’d say it would be safe to assume Mosquito FBs like this one were involved in the landings. In fact, a quick search for [ICODE]Mosquito FB invasion stripes[/ICODE] turned up this picture:

The fact that they’re brush-painting the stripes, and they’re not exactly perfectly straight, almost certainly means this picture dates from just before D-Day.
Some people worry about getting those invasion strips so straight. Just like Jakko said these are not perfect
Apparently some of the Dakotas were done with yard brushes and whitewash because they were large and the ground crew had such a short time to do them. I did Len Cheshire’s mosquito for the GB a couple of years back and that had stripes, though the top ones had been painted out by August when it crashed, so I’d say this would be fine.
Most photos show invasion stripes of different widths and with wobbly edges, so I don't know why so many think they're straight and regular. Go on, hand paint them!
This came about 20 mins ago. It doesn't come with invasion stripe decals but i'd have a go at painting them on if this is allowed.
Could I have a ruling if this is allowed or not? (if not then it would have to be a kit from my stash)

Hello Steve,
I’ve had a quick look and I don’t think any of the aircraft the markings in the kit are supplied for took part on D-Day so you will need after market decals for one that did.
However if you can find any pics of the said aircraft with D-Day stripes then that would be allowed.
If the markings supplied are of an aircraft which took part on D-Day then yes, if not you will need after market decals for one that did.
Geoff.
Hmm.. I just opened the box, looking at the decal options and they are for 487, 143, 157 squadrons and I don't believe they are d-day ones so I'm guessing that's a no then.
Thanks. I've been looking and can't find anything that's not absurdly expensive. There's lot of time left so I'll spend the next few days looking but I also need to be prepared to drop out of this if I can't find anything, which would suck.
Or just make something up … Cut up the letters for the sides of the fuselage and put them together in a different way, for example. It’ll be representative of what was there without being necessarily any of that exactly. It seems to me, though, that part of the question here is that Geoff knows RAF stuff, so he’s disqualifying this without the correct markings, but if you were to build an M4A2 Sherman in US 3rd Army markings, I doubt he would object :smiling3: [ISPOILER]For the record: the US didn’t use M4A2s and 3rd Army was in the UK until well after D-Day.[/ISPOILER]
Ah this kind of answers a question I had about generic markings. I was going to do a standard Jeep but I don't actually know if I have the correct relevant markings - I'll have to so some research.
