How many do you need Dave-I've collected a few for my LCVP dio-I can spare some
I was talking of the troops wearing them rather than carrying them.

Neil - thanks for the offer. For the action-packed dramatic dio I have in mind, I'd need one! Count it - one!

Sonething happened today and i feel i should share in this thread

Went up to the cemetary today.....put some flowers down on wifes grave.........its my usual practice to go for a walk....bit of exercise and fresh air and peace and quiet.........i have actually visited every war grave to pay my respects....theres a few interesting ones.....but today i was just having a bimble about...walked past a headstone of a guy who had died in 1972 (so not a war memorial style head stone).....but had a VC......so i looked him up

The recipient of the only VC awarded on D Day

Made a bit of a nuisence of himself that day...he was a CSM in the Green Howards...took out 2 pill boxes single handed capturing over 30 germans......then cleared a trench......then took a platoon forward to take out another pill box.....got pinned down in a building......fell back and realised 2 guys had been left behind.....picked up a bren gun and went back for them......qoute was 'i took them in....i will bring them back'

      Brave man
      Per Ardua

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

Fascinating stuff you can come across. I remember coming across a CWGC stone in a local churchyard near Salisbury, dated 1942, aged 62. Thought his age was a bit strange. Turned out to be this guy. He earned the MC in the home guard, dying in service. Please read the link, it is quite incredible.

@Jakko did you ever get around to the Piper L-4 on GMC CCKW? In the post from GroupTruck Build thread you noted
" I already bought the Bronco 1:35 scale Piper Cub last year or so for exactly that reason :smiling3: I don’t have a GMC kit yet, though (and it would probably end up needing two: Hobby Boss for the chassis and load bed, Italeri for the cab), nor any real idea of what the racks in the load bed looked like to carry the Cub."
If you still want these details of the cargo jigs just let me know. This is one of my long-standing projects too, as well as the jeep-towed version landed catastrophically from LCT at Omaha on D-Day.

The Grasshoppers were also landed from LSTs on open cab CCKWs in later disembarkations, so the Tamiya truck works for that arrangement.

Hey, John, fancy seeing you here No, I haven’t got round to that one yet, though I have come close to buying a GMC a few times … but every time the thing that stopped me was the amount of work needed and all of the other things I also want to build. Which is my perpetual excuse, of course But I would be happy to see the information you have collected on these trucks, it might just push me closer to actually building one …

                Hello guys,

Firstly big apologies for not being around for a while.

A brief explanation is in order so here goes.
I started a new job at the beginning of July which didn’t go well leading to some MH difficulties and a big loss of mojo.
Hence I haven’t been contributing much and haven’t been following any of your great builds.
Anyway the new job has been binned and I’ve gone back to my old job where I am much happier and I am in a much better frame of mind.

So I’ll be back to the bench and catching up with your splendid work.

                Thanks for your understanding :thumb2:

                Geoff.

Shame Lee, never mind no point carrying on if you’re not enjoying it.

Wish I had joined as D-Day is my favourite subject to build. Just read the whole episode here. Imagine Eisenhower must have had the same issues but in a much larger scale and managed to pull things together. I guess our little rumble has been dusted and put away and we can get on with the tribute.
I take ions to finish anything and GB timelines can be a problem so I'll just enjoy the postings and pictures...some great references I've not seen before.
I might just put together an anti aircraft GMC Bofors 40mm Gun but will need clarification if they were used during Normandy. It doesn't have the circled stars in the decal sheet for air recognition but can use spares that I have.

                      Cheers,
                      Wabble

Change of plans...might just do the Bofors as I have one in 1/35 scale from Italeri. That should clear approval. Many were stationed at the frontline airfields after the landings.

                        Cheers,
                        Wabble
