Brilliant, that's really thinking outside the box. Bit risky sacrificing your pyjama cord. Just don't answer the door to the post lady and take the parcel from her with both hands :rolling:

Neil, have you tried crepe bandages. I used that for my tug boat. Check out the Pharmacy.

        Cheers,

Thanks Richard, but what I think of as a crepe bandage would not be suitable for this.

Cheers Paul ,I am rather relieved.

Anyway, I have had a bash at the stern fender!
I started off by folding it like this, designed to give a fullness in the centre and taper towards the ends.

It was tricky to stitch together because the weave is so loose, but I ended up with this

            Close, but too fat.
Try again, with a lot less padding

I stitched it a bit better this time

            This is more promising
I decided to insert a wire to make the curve controllable

I superglued the ends to stop the fraying and nearly gassed myself with the fumes!
The wire also allows me to hide the stitching at the back

I gave it a coat of Kleer and when that's dry we shall see how it looks with paint on it, but I am cautiously optimistic.
            That's it for now
            thanks
            Neil

That really looks the business, and I think you’ve just given me some ideas for how to finally make similar things for the LWS I’ve had nearly complete for years due to not having any reasonable way of making rope bumpers for it.

Is there no end to this man's talents?! Not only a first class modeller, he's also technologically savvy enough to produce great 3D prints and now he's showing his talents as a seamstress!

I should be careful if I were you Neil. SWMBO will always be able to find those little clothing repair jobs - imagine how they could eat into your bench time!

Ha ha thanks Dave. I'm afraid your warning is rather late, it's been going all my married life. In fact I even made her wedding dress .And with three daughters and a daughter in law it really does impact on my bench time. They're always buying things that are too long, knowing I can take them up! What can you do?
