Sorry I’m late to the party Allen, but a cracking start, I’m sat quietly at the back with my flask of Yorkshire Tea. ( I’m not a coffee drinker at all ).

Hi guys,
That's the way I like it Dave. Hope you're feeling much better and I love your table my friend...
Thank you Lee! You're not doing too badly yourself...
Well, I got up this morning and the sun was shining, so that meant hissy time marathon. Yea, Right!!! I masked up the rest of the deuce and set up all the stuff to paint it. Tamiya OD mixed with 40% X20A in my 5 ml. syringe. 18 PSI on the 'pressor, booth open and the second syringe with IPA to shoot through to warm up the hissy stick and clean it afterwards. I Looked at the filter,
Had a second thought, but said the hell with it...Let's go crazy!!! Shot some IPA to check the flow, shook the mix and squirted 2 ml in the cup and while setting the syringe down, on it's end..............I tipped the Hissy and spilled paint all over...DOH!!! I forgot to put the lid on the cup!!! First time for everything I suppose. Cleaned the mess up and went to try it again. Ok, we shot the frame, the tidbits, the cab, and the cargo bed top and sides. Squirted the last paint in the cup and went at the bed underside. Done deal, till I looked and saw a few areas that needed some touchup. Fixed 2 and ran out of paint. If I hadn't spilled the approximate 1 ml, it would been perfect. Here it be,
As you can see, I took the pics after unmasking and a test fit of the main parts to the chassis. The hood is just sitting on top.
The big question is, does the Tamiya XF-62 OD look a bit too green? The bottle is 25-30 years old, but stirred up perfectly with no lumps or bumps in it. Or is OD a little bit browner, like the Tamiya plastic color?...Just wondering... Oh forgot the dash closeup,
It should paint up and decal pretty nice. Painting the dial thingy's should be a good test for my old peepers and nerves...
After all this nonsense, it got too hot to do anything else, except a good cleaning on the hissy stick. We might give it a new try in the morn if my apartment cools down over night. Thank you all again for your interest and stay chilled...
Prost

Hey Bro, look'in good, but I think maybe you have too many sticks if no winch. Trans., e-brake, transfer case, & winch engagement.
A side note. Prime movers (2.5ton GMC short wheelbase) were equipped w/2 spares for additional front axle off road traction. All jimmydeucenahafs had extended front hubs to accommodate this feature but had only one spare mounted.Comment

Zaloga once wrote a whole article about the real OD and various model paint colours for it in Military Modelling, and his conclusion was that Tamiya XF-62 came closest. However, that was about 25 years ago, and Tamiya changed the paint since — and if I’m not mistaken, then changed it again because of complaints that the new version was clearly too green. Couple this to the usual problems of saying anything actually useful about colours in photographs, especially ones viewed on computer screens, and basically, the bottom line is: What do you think of it? If it looks OK to you, leave it; if you think it’s not brown enough, try again but mix a little XF-52 or something into the XF-62?

Sorry Allen, late to this party- even though it started on time I'm relieved to see it hit the pause button straight away, so I don't feel so bad. :tongue-out3:

Late afternoon Folks,
Thanks Bro! It's been too hot to really do anything else lately, including hairy stick. Wearing the Optivisor is also very limited in the heat...

Can't say why there is a double lever for part C14 either. I'm not too up on the deuce. As far as the wood bed, I think I will scratch it up with weathering and fill it with CITB. Maybe weather up the side rails a little too. Add some dust and you won't see the wood in the bed...
That’s always the question with colours like OD, dark yellow, etc. :smiling3: Zaloga once wrote a whole article about the real OD and various model paint colours for it in Military Modelling, and his conclusion was that Tamiya XF-62 came closest. Thank you Lee! Please send me some cool air so I can keep on 'Truckin' Buddy!!!
Today, it was cooler and I had hoped to shoot more paint and get things done. I had all the windows open to chill down the apartment, but every time I wanted to do something, it started to pour down rain. Close the windows, wait, try again, NOT, wait, open them up, prep, poured rain again, close them, repeat as aforementioned................Fergit it........maybe tomorrow.
I did manage to get one thing done today. I test fitted a middle shelf in one of my display cases to see how it would work out,
It's not too bad, but needs some adjustments. The 2mm thick shelf needs to be 0.5cm wider and the support screws need to be moved further inwards on the sides. I have 10cm height under, and 9cm on top. Light weight models on top and heavier ones on the bottom will definitely work. The Panther has Friul tracks on it and the shelf would never be able to hold it...
Thanks for looking in and sorry for the late replies. More to come, weather depending!!!...

Hey Folks,
Thanks for trying Lee!!! The temps have jumped up here again. Ya can't win. Hope all is ok in your neck of the woods my friend...
1 GB down and 1 to go!!! Over the past week and while it was still kinda cool, I drove on with the Deuce to try and get her done too. I painted up lots of stuff with the hairy stick. I started with the motor,
I just followed the destructions. One thing was odd. They don't say/show what color the motor itself should be. I went with Satin Black. Not being able to decide how to paint the tires and wheels. (2 brain cells - hairy stick, 2 brain cells - hissy stick), I finally just pulled out a wide flat brush and went at it. Wheels first and then the tires,
And like in another thread on here, brushing the Tamiya color XF-62 came out a bit different color and shiny as opposed to when you spray it. I stirred the daylights out of it before hand too. No probs, as piggies and mud will cover that up nicely. I dotted the 6 cargo bed reflectors with red, using a toothpick,
They'll get dulled up with weathering. I moved on to the exhaust, wind shield and seats,
Yes, the clear pieces are in the frame. I lightly dribbled TET in the corners to secure it. Luckily, it didn't run outside the frame ridges. Coated both the seats and exhaust system with the appropriate washes. Then it was time to give the dash it's 4 decals and dot the dials/lever knobs with Satin Black,
I also slobbered a coat of AV European Dust wash around the inside of the cab. I painted the inside of the headlights with matt alu and added the clear parts. Then on with the slat grill piece,
I will paint the pieces on the firewall in the morn. With most of the sub-assemblies done, I started to muck up the fender wells with mud. My big jar of AV Euro Mud was dried out, so I spent a half hour mixing it back to life with water, in the jar. I fell back on my little trusty jar of Reality In Scale mud,
It looks like it has a little sheen to it. Some piggies will matt it down for sure. In the morn, I hope to get the wheels and tires mucked up and dig out my collection of CITB to add to what came with the kit. I just hope the temps don't get any hotter than today. It's been over 30° C outside...
Thank you for your patience with this GB build progress. I do want to get it finished, as 2 other projects are screaming at me to be worked on. More to come and have a good week...
Prost
