Looking excellent Geoff - you're just a little ahead of where I am with my Typhoon - I'm just clear-coating prior to decals.Arnold Judas Rimmer BSc SSc

Time for another quick update ?
I’ve started adding the D-day stripes, firstly though I had to remove a couple of the rocket rails.
I softened the join with a dab of TET and they came off easily.
The stripes were 18 inches wide in reality which approximately equates to 6mm Tamiya tape in 1/72 scale.
So the areas were marked out with very thin strips of Tamiya tape to try and prevent any damage to the decals.
I’ve chosen to brush paint the markings to give it a more scruffy look. Not sure how this will turn out but nothing ventured nothing gained ?
It’s had one coat of Vallejo Model Color 70.820 Off White.I think another couple of thin coats should do the trick before I mark it out and add the black stripes.
Anyway enough waffle, here’s the pictures ?
Thanks for looking ?

Well that didn’t go well ☹️
I’ve had a lot of bleed through with the paint on the invasion stripes so it will need a fair bit of touching up.
I’ve also somehow managed to get a bit of black paint on the wing tip ?
To add insult to injury my cunning plan of sealing the decals with a clear coat didn’t work so well so the masking tape has lifted some sections of them off. This is despite me extensively de-tacking the tape?.
I know I said in a previous post that I wanted it to look scruffy but this wasn’t what I had in mind ?, another update soon after I’ve repaired all the damage.
Thanks for looking ?

Ummmmmm!!!! Could work in your favour Geoff. FRom where I am sat those are some of the more realistic invasion stripes I have seen. I would take a step back before diving in with too much touch up. I think we have seen this picture before but it highlights how scruffy those stripes can look. With the model weathered up a bit they may look fine. JMO.

Thanks Steve, I was aiming for a scruffier look a bit like that just not as scruffy as it turned out ?. I’ve done a bit of touching up and it looks a bit more like what I was aiming for.
Just trying to soak the masking tape off the bits of decal that pulled off then I can tackle patching them up.

Nearly done now ?
I’ve tidied up the stripes, they are still a bit ragged but I’m happy with them as it is more the effect I was trying for.
I have also repaired the decals and have added the undercarriage and it’s had a Matt coat.
A bit of light weathering and the canopy and rockets to be added then it’s done.
Another update soon, thanks for looking ?

Hello chaps,
I’m calling this one done now.
Canopy and Rockets added followed by some light weathering using pigments.
I could go heavier with the weathering but on most of the pictures I’ve seen the aircraft look reasonably clean.
I really want to move on to other builds now too so this is how it stays ?
I’ll post some better pics on the finished aircraft thread later.
Thanks,
Geoff.👍 4Comment
