Afternoon Folks. Not an update of sort, but replies are in order,
Thanks Andy! Uhh, Neat and clean??? Okay, it's going alright, but gotten too hot to paint the body. Are sure sure you read my post with the right glasses on, Sir??? LOL!!!...
Thanks and me too Garry! I hope within the next couple of weeks to have it finished. 30°C heat is the biggest prob right now...

Like I said above, its gotten too hot to hissy, with temps 30° and above for the rest of the week. Fan doesn't really help, even on the cyclone setting. It just blows all the dust around the apartment. While looking in a box for something else, I came across this blast from the past!!! A kit released in 1988,
I know I bought it, but why, where or when escapes me. It would have been cool for Bob's Gb, but it has been already started,
I was the person who built it, that's for sure, because I did my favorite # on the motor,
Spark plug wires out of black thread!!! I love my motors...If you are not familiar with this type of racing car, here are a few things worth noting,
1. Big block fuel injected V-8, with mucho, mucho HP
2. Direct drive with no tranny, just a disconnect coupler between motor and rear diff. They needed to be pushed to start after the coupler was engaged. Rear wheels didn't turn when pushing till around 50mph and then the motor caught on
3. Brake(s) on the rear axle only. One or two discs depending on the builder
4. Larger sized rear tire on the outside and smaller, inside. Usually the right rear, as the cars raced counter-clockwise on wetted dirt or clay ovals
5. Raced more time drifting sideways and little time in a straight line, depending on track size. At the Orange County Fair Speedway, in Middletown N.Y., the 5/8 mile clay oval (near where I lived), they drove straight for a second or two. Average speed was 130mph+
6. And when they wrecked, end over end rolls, 5-6 times and side over side rolls, up to 10 times or even more. Rarely was a driver injured, but fights between drivers were common......
In the beginning of the 70's, I used to work on a tow truck from from the gas station were I worked. The owner had 2 stations and a body shop with a huge junkyard. He raced in the modified class, so we were there every Saturday night with 2 tow trucks to remove the wrecks and, when the Sprint cars came 2 or 3 times a season, to push start them. We sure did have a lot of fun back then and we got in for free too.......
Sorry to get off track a bit, but Paul's (minitnkr) GB finds and now my find, has brought back a lot of fantastic memories of the good ole days of racing........
Hope to have an update soon and please try to keep cool as the temps rise...

Evening All,
I'm back on the planet for a little while and time for a short and sweet update on my GTR. I finally shot some paint on the it. 10ml for the job, and it wasn't 100% in coverage. Oh well, some touch up's, hairy stick work, and then life goes on, with the decals and glass work,
Spoiler isn't glued down. The color is 50% Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan and 50% X-22 Gloss, mixed with 40% X-20A. Covering blue plastic is a PITA, but it's done...
More to come, and I gotta play ketchup (again), as you guys never slow down. Have a great week!!!...

Allen, Outlaws still rule! That's a small block Chevy, as were almost all of them. It's interesting to see the young hot shoes from NASCAR w/only asphalt in their history initially stumble about on dirt although most of the old timers got their start on USAC dirt.Comment

Afternoon everyone,
Got a little behind on the ketchup and replying to you guys. Work goes on and the decaling was done over a couple of days...
We have decals!!! If you are of weak stomach or such, then please turn the page at this time. Actually, I had asked Bob about this a while back and he gave me the Ok, The hardest one to cut and apply,
Yes Sir!!! Straight out of 1918!!! The Lukgraph laser decals are great and I have a half sheet of the regular Naval Hex to play with. They went down like butter on toast. Moving on,
The excess was easily cut off with a sharp blade tip. Oh, and the spoiler got a set too,
You can also see that I painted up some areas with hairy stick using AK's Satin Black. Then came the side stripes. I went with only one on each side. I was going to go crazy with more, but I slapped myself,
Only having the kit decals, I went about cutting them up some, to be used accordingly. The start,
For Tamiya decals, they too went on pretty smooth, with no hiccups. All the rest were then added,
I even used some of the stuff from the sheet titles (left rear) and the Tamiya stars. I put the cockpit decals over the doors in case the driver forgot where to get into the car. I just need to add the 2 piece Calsonic decal on the spoiler. Next up will be all the glass parts and when they are done, I can glue on the spoiler...
Sorry to disappoint some folks with my color scheme. It does look like a race car. I do wish that the sheet had more color on the sponsor decals though. Only white is kinda boring.......
Thanks for looking in and have a great week. All abuse is appreciated!!!
