    Nick's Airfix 1/72 F86D Sabre (1975)

Well, thanks to Paul for suggesting this one and getting it off the ground.

I picked out two kits for this Group Build and this is the second. It's been in my possession since sometime in the 1970s and like my other entry has spent most of it's life in the lofts of various houses. This GB seems like an ideal opportunity to get it done. This will be a strictly out of the box build with the exception of some replacement decals. Here's what I've got:

    Boxart:

The eagle-eyed amongst you might notice that there is no landing gear present. I think this was removed by a teenage me as I had already built the boxart scheme on it's wheels. This is more likely given what remains of the existing decals:

Anyway, they are being slung out in favour of these:

Not sure which one I'm doing yet. I may not get started on this right away on the 1st, but hopefully I will do so at some point next week.

Welcome to anybody that cares to follow along.

Thanks Lee. I seem to remember this kit being quite highly regarded in its day.

I'm glad someone is building this Nick. For some unknown reason, I remember building this as a kid. Probably some 50 years ago.

We're off and running! I constructed the interior parts and laid them on the fuselage which I taped together while they dried.....

I then set about a bit of painting and also gave the instrument panel some highly dubious finishing....

Its been pretty plain sailing so far although now that the fuselage halves have been glued together the real work will start and there will have to be some raised detail sacrificed along the way..

                  Thanks for looking in.

Looks good Nick. It doesn't appear to have rivet detail, just raised lines. I've replaced raised lines before using thin rigging wire, maybe that's an option after the sanding.

That's an interesting option from Joe. I've used stretched sprue in the past, the problem is stretching it to a hair's thickness !

I guess stretched sprue would be sandable so might be easier.

Yes, and stretched sprue is also able to be sanded as Nick says.
                  Working...
