Here’s one I picked up on eBay for £4.99 plus postage . It’s an interesting Heller kit of the Heinkel he 112 fighter. This attractive aircraft was runner up to the BF109 in the contest for a new German fighter in the early thirties and although slightly inferior to the 109 was still put into small scale production and ended up being used by the Condor legion and the Spanish in the civil war and the Hungarians and Romanians in WW2. It’s a nice little kit with reasonably detailed cockpit ( closed canopy only so no worries) and delicate raised panel lines . There are two decal options , a luftwaffe test machine and a Romanian one. I’ll be doing the Romanian as it’s a bit more colourful. Speaking of the decals , they are the usual Heller standard - dead Matt and quite yellowed carrier film , I’ve had them taped in a sunny window the last couple of days to try and fade the yellowing, I still think I might have to trim the excess carrier film off though .( hopefully not the white border of the st michaels crosses too ,like I did on the PZL p7 a a few years back !) Here’s a screenshot of the price and the box and sprues.

Made a start today on this one, it’s a nice simple kit but has some delicate details . The fuselage has detail on the sidewalls that will come up nice with a bit of paint and the seat and IP should scrub up well too. The engine access panels are different according to which variant you’re doing , the Romanian 112b1 has the multiple ejector exhausts , the Luftwaffe 112b0 has just a single port on each side.
So off we go and here’s the results of a good few hours in the shed this morning, the cockpit came up ok and some belts have been added from Tamiya tape. I just guessed the colours as although there are some very good pics of He 112 cockpits on the web ,they’re all in black and white, so I went for RLM 02 and used a big dollop of artistic licence for the rest.Comment

That looks a really nice little kit for it's age Tony. Is the He112 the fighter they tried to trick the British into believing they had squadrons of the things? It seems to ring bells for that reason, or I'm thinking of something else. It will look superb in the Romanian markings.Comment

This ones coming together quite nicely now . Got the main airframe together , only needing a smear of Vallejo acrylic putty in a couple of places and the raised panel lines re instated with a sharp blade . Ive now fitted the canopy and primed it all in white . I would usually use Halfords grey but the yellow areas ( under wing tips , fuselage band and rudder ) dont go well over grey . The rudder has the romanian blueish purple , yellow and red stripes but this isnt supplied as a decal so thats why its got a base of yellow. The yellow was then sprayed , masked and a quick ,very rough pre shade was then applied .Comment
