This is a rework of a knocked out Tiger 1 that we use at home and away events to house a sound system for battlefield background sounds, what we wanted is the ability to also smoke.
Now, the first idea was to use a smoke machine running of a battery pack and on/off switch...problem, the chances of us forgetting about it and it burning out are pretty high...so, back to drawing board.
The lower hull is metal, the top is plastic with a aluminium sheet suspended above...yep, a incense cone, it produces wispy smoke that simulates a tank that is still smouldering without any danger of it catching fire etc. Done some burn tests many times and no problems, the front hatches open so the airflow changes so we get smoke from the grilles and then hatches etc. The turret is plasticarded underneath so that no smoke gets to the sound unit.
All, repainted, new decals new wheels, sprockets, idlers and tracks. Stripped down gearboxes in place just to hold the sprockets on. The only genuine piece from the original is the turret, which has had a total repaint-but as a MKI turret it has something on the wrong way...I only just noticed while uploading the pictures LOL. I also needed to make a MG for the bow gun-not having one I ended up using an old axle from the MKI hull. On this metal hull you can see the torsion bar suspension, just like the real tank.
You can just see the smoke wisping from the rear grilles, looks better in the flesh.
