What a right carrier on ...

Ok, sorry for the sort of pun. Having posted my two latest kits I thought I would bring together some photos of an ongoing, longish term project; to build many variants of the humble carrier.

the first I unfortunately do not have - accidents happen but fortunately i have some photos which were published in Military modelling many years ago, it is the Praying Mantis, the experimental weapon based on the carrier running gear, the actual vehicle is at Bovington:

This was based on the Tamiya kit with Resicast tracks.

    Up next the Canadian variant mounting a 2lb gun;

The research for the Bren Carrier was interesting; for years there was no known surviving Bren Carrier, even Bovington didn't know of any surviving Bren Carrier. a few years ago Military Modelling mag had a feature about a show and there was a photo of a Bren Carrier, a quick email to Mil Mod and disappointment - they did not know who owned it. So off to the WWW and time on Google, an amazing bit of luck: I came across a photo of a wreck of the bren carrier on a the website of a shipping company which imported it from Australia. i emailed them and they passed on my contact details to the owner who contacted me. i explained that I was researching the vehicle for a model and he agreed to take a few photos for me. A Couple of weeks later I got an email with a link to a drop box and around 50 photos of his carrier! Very kind of him and fantastic reference.

on the bench at the moment is a standard carrier laden with the Black Dog load and a Riich mortar carrier version.

i may have been a bit over enthusiastic on the shopping front:

    The plan includes:

    out of the box models:

    Wasp II
    Wasp IIc
    MG Carrier
    German army version with panzerchreck
    mk1 painted in caunter scheme

    conversions:

    Cavalry carrier
    Scout carrier
    Indian Army 'ambulance' version
    AOP version.

as and when I finish a model, or possibly if, I will post photos.

Nice subject Peter and cool to build with so many variants to make. Getting a comfy daybed for this.

                      Thanks for the encouragement.
i hope you are all very comfy - the Preying Mantis was built in 2003, the 3 2lb variants date from 2025/2026 And the Bren Carrier around 2018, at this speed - 5 every 20 years,I plan on living to over 100 to finish them!

                        Peter,
there are files for making the Praying Mantis
Model in 1:72 scale. Can be scaled from any scale using the program: Chitubox or 3D bilder or similar. Files include STL models without supports and models with supports ready to print. Only for personal use.

I’m sure there must be drawings of it somewhere, and else you could always go to Bovington with a tape measure

I couldn't find any plans - although this was a few years ago, the best I got was some photos which were side on and front on; I knew that the wheels used were the standard carrier wheels so was able to scale measurements off the photo: take the measurements off the photo, divide them by the diameter of the wheel in the photo and multiply it, by the diameter of a wheel in 1/35 to get the 1/35th measurement. Time consuming but it worked.
