What you can do with those ancient Airfix kits; Part2

Another one in my occasional series:

    AEC O854, 2500gal Mk4 Refueller.

Added the booms from a QL, albeit lengthened. Scratched the pump/filter units and front searchlight, thinned the mudguards and added hoses using solder wire. Changed the wheels for the Friendship Models set. The whole finished in a 50's colour scheme.

Yes just finished one. A Glouster Gladiator. Enjoyed building it. It went together OK but was a bit rustic in detail.

No a lot rustic in detail.

Yes very nice Dave. These old kits are not easy. How did you find this one to build. ?

Not too bad, I think the trick is to proceed methodically, and dry fit everything first. That being said, some 80/90s editions of these kits were really rough- not a patch on the earlier, and later, editions. I have a tendency to buy old kits, when I see them-

It all stems from when I was a young lad at a toy & collectable show, and one of the stall owners wouldn't sell me a kit (Airfix whirlwind, if I recall correctly) because he said it was only for collectors... Ever since, whenever I've seen unmade kits listed as 'Collectable' I've bought them and made them up... Just my way of sticking two fingers up at those who think kits aren't for making

Nice work from an old kit Dave, that has turned out rather nicely indeed.
