    Zvezda 1/35 WC 51 "Beep"

    Evening All,

Haven't posted much since joining but hope to amend that now I've got my model "room" sorted!

Just started the above Zvezda kit and it's the first Zvezda kit I've built. The fit of the parts seems a little "off" and I just wondered if this is a trait of Zvezda kits or is it just a one off. It's nothing disastrous, just interested in everyone's experience for future reference.

    Thanks.

Their older stuff was a bit hit & miss but the more recent kits are excellent, some of the best I've built for fit & engineering.

It's strange as the one you're building should fit into the later category, but I guess every manufacturer can have a bad day...

Andy is right, at least, in my experience. The Zvezda stuff I’ve built has been good, but I’ve had duff ones from Tamiya, Trumpeter, etc, as well as great ones. Every now and then they all drop the ball, but they also sometimes hit real heights. There isn’t much out there that is really unbuildable, and part of the fun is finding out what you’ve got and getting them to a decent final state ?

As Andy and Tim say all manufacturers have kits which are better than others and Zvezda are no exception.
Glad the model room is sorted and I look forward to seeing how you get on with this.

I think it’s time to “fess up”!!

I had another look yesterday and looks like I misaligned the upper and lower halves of the chassis when cementing them together. ??. Tried to disassemble it but the upper chassis is very fragile and I ended up breaking it. I was probably it too much of a rush at the time although to be fair the instructions aren’t that clear.

Probably not the best kit to try as my 3rd one back after a 40 year break!! Will get hold of another one at some point though as it looks a good subject.

Thats a shame. Is it not something that can be salvaged. We all break things as we progress through a build so its worth having a go at repairing it. If its a part that wont be seen when the model is fully assembled then it gives you plenty of scope for a repair. Its worth cracking on and use it as a training/test model. JMO.
