Just one point, Robert, Churchill MkVII tracks were made of a Magnesium compound, so didn`t rust.

Update on the Churchill build. Did a lot of work on the Churchill today mainly building ans priming
I took plastic card and cut fat t sections to go in the interior so to blank out the gap from the centre track guard removal.
I used mr Sargent green putty to smooth the " cast turret " but give it a look of clean impart seam.
The Churchill is going to be a Mk 6 as according to reference there were not many Mk 7 in Normandy
Most in combat were Mk 3, 4, 5, 6.

I plan to dirty the tracks up a lot and make them well used ( I did see a few ref pics of colour tracks but they looked very muddy. What I have done is spray them with sandy brown first then stipples must brown on. I then took a lighter wash of gunmetal to the tracks, then treated the parts that would touch the roads with metallic grey and then stipple with aluminium.Originally posted by \

To do a Mk VI, Robert you will need to change the side doors to rectangular ones and put a completely different turret on it as the Mk VI had the same turret as a MkIV.Comment

Now that's looking too ambitious ( the tamiya kit says the kit is designed to be a 4 or a 7 but now the extra research done agrees with what you say ( bugger!!!!
I wanted to do the Churchill at Falaise with a few citizens thanking the British for arriving ( I have a few geran prisoners too to add to the dio
So without going to more operating theatres can you suggest a compromise so I can get the tank finished and start on my dio.
My research shows the churchills came ashore at Juno beach and helped support offensives
Now I dint want to make it too fictitious as that's not what I desire
The tank has to be original and true to detail as best I can

Cheers for the input on a/b earlier ( ps I have about 60 brushes ranging from 00 to diy ones but pray tell what's your best and company used for fine detail ( rust streaks etc )
I just bought the flats from humbrol and tried a but of streaking on the hetzer but think I need more practice.

I usually dry brush my fine detail on with a lighter colour if it's a large enough area if it's small I use an Italieri sable hair brush 000 and if it's really fine I cut down a brush to about 3/4 hairs to do the jobOriginally posted by \
For actual rust I use the powders as they give you that dusty crumbly look , I personally use humbrol powders I find them just as good but a lot of people use the mig ones , I only have the normal rust colour which is like a light a reddish brown if I want a darker older looking rust I give it an oil wash of black or burnt umber to darken it
Brush painting is practice the more you practice the better you get , I've been doing it for four years and it's only now I'm starting to turn out ok stuff

The confusion lies in the full title of this tank, ie....
INFANTRY TANK MKIV CHURCHILL MKVII.
The infantry tank came in four flavours.
1. Inf. tank MkI Matilda
2. Inf. tank MkII Matlda II
3. Inf. tank MkIII Valentine
4. Inf. tank Mk IV Churchill.
Apart from the first one the rest then appeared as different Mk`s of tank, ie Matilda II Mk II etc, it can be very confusing to the uninitiated.Comment

First coat of paint on the Churchill after the Vallejo black primer No 250 model air Bronze green. I got the AFV painting system guide.
I want the input if it's the correct colour to start with. There's still lots of work to go in to this build but wanted to paint it its first spray see how it looked and possible filling errors I need to address
I have given it a bit of damage but all will be reviewed in final painting and weathering

Oh I forgot to put the tracks on the last part ( I had primed Vallejo black first then sprayed gunmetal from a further away distance. The stipples mud brown 037 then used mig track brown P414 pigment before going over the parts that touch the road with a Lyra graphite pencil then finally a light stipple with revel 99 aluminium
I'm quite pleased with the result. I may give another dust once the dio is done

I like the realistically metallic look of the tracks Robert - you've got plenty of depth there.
Depending on your final choice of setting, I'd definitely add some dust / mud in the grooves etcComment
