Nice work Graham, coming along a treat mate, looking forward to seeing more, any idea on what you are going to do with the paint work, ambush scheme?

Much the same as the box art at the top of the thread, as I have said, I cannot confirm this actual version ever became reality. The version in post #10 certainly did, or two of them did, and there are pictures of it in action. However, this chassis with another gun certainly existed but this particular version may have just been a concept.

To this end, any late as in the last three months of the war, schemes would be appropriate in the last ditch attempt to stop the Soviets taking Berlin. I am not artistic enough to do the primer and part painted look, I would just make a hash of it. I may do the gun, gun shield in one scheme and the chassis in another. Maybe an unpainted gun barrel? Anyone know what is a good colour for that dark grey metalic looking coating on the barrels pre top coat?

Just seen this one Graham and some very nice work so far, I've just pulled up my seat for the rest of the build.

This is coming along well Graham.

A fair bit of work going into this and I do like the etched work you have done.

Always use a gas torch for soldering. I find it easier than using a soldering iron as you don't have to physically touch the parts so no movement.

If you don't mind; how do you actually get the solder on the brass and then apply the heat, without the solder going everywhere and not giving yourself 3rd degree burns at the same time.

Sometimes you don't lol. No, seriously, it is easy if you have the right stuff. I am at work st the moment but when I get home I will do a demo to show you. It will be easier than trying to explain it in words.

Ok, I promised a little demo on using the gas torch/burner for soldering. This is now in the Tutorials/How To section.

Right, after a couple of cups of tea and a bacon sandwich to wake me up, the Waffentrager is looking pretty cool in its black primer. Just clipped it all back together for the photos. Let this dry and then a bit of shading work before some colour finally goes on.

I have decided to stick roughly with the box art for the exterior but the interior, I am going to attempt a red primer look. If this ever made it out the factory, it wasn't in the streets of Berlin long before the Russians overran the City so not a lot of weathering but I will chip it up a bit and make it dusty. Certainly no mud and stuff.

                        Looking good Graham.

And what primer did you use?

This is the Black Stynylrez by Badger that I believe John is going to stock. This has been well thinned using IPA and airbrushed on using the budget airbrush I got from John. I did say I was done with dedicated primers but when you get this stuff right, it is a beautiful finish and quite forgiving. I would agree with Badger though that it needs a .4mm needle if you want to spray neat or slightly thinned. I am using 60% thinners to 40% paint with a .2mm nozzle and only just getting away with it.

Covers photo etch and aluminium barrels as easily as it covers the plastic blending the different media together nicely without textural or colour change.

That looks rather futuristic in black

To say the chassis is right from the beginning of the war, I think it looks rather racy

A bit of colour. It looks a bit patchy but that is how I want it, the filters etc will pull it together and avoid the solid slab of colour. Leaving the barrel black for a bit of contrast, this will tone down when filtered. The inner areas that are still black will be primer red. Again, just clipped together so things are not hanging straight, that gun may be aluminium but it really feels heavy on the kit.

Off out for Sunday dinner so no more progress this weekend.
