Hello,

this one was originally built in 2012 but I wasn't happy with my dodgy paint finish that came out really dark and dingy.

As a result it never made it to a base and has been sat in disgrace on top of a cupboard since then.

It started life as a Sovereign resin kit from some considerable time ago - I found it needed rather a lot of work to get it into shape and as usual it was quite good fun / frustrating in equal measures

The resin tracks were replaced with much better Masterclub items and I scratch built an interior for it based on the few photos that are available

Yesterday I saw some figures in the Scale Model Shop shop that kick started the idea of dragging this from its slumber and refinishing it

I cleaned it up with cotton buds and lighter fluid then primed it over the old paint scheme using my favourite Halfords primer

It took a lot of work to get it to this point including a bit of basket weaving with pewter to make the shell containers

so this is what it currently looks like after todays repaint with Tamiya XF63 and a bit of shading with white added and then an AK Ultra matt varnish

Looks much better than it did anyway

When I read lighter fluid, well you can imagine what I thought !
Basket weaving, hope Steve see this and mends the error of his ways using foil.
Looks interesting so shall follow and see where I went wrong :surprised::surprised:

Hi Ian - yes, a few extras along the way to correct things and try bring it up to a decent level of detail

Tim - was quite a while since. Hadn't realised it had been sat on the cupboard for quite so long. I do like the slab shape of these things. Have a Dragon one somewhere in the stash and an Armourfast version (with incorrect circular plate on roof)

This poor thing is going to be another experiment in winter finishing so......

airbrushed crosses on each side then coated it in worn effects followed by a slightly blotchy Tamiya white finish

On a basket weaving note...Come on Paul, you know you want to do this in 1/87 scale…..

I did in fact consider how to fake it in my scale once in a moment of dazed confusion, but settled on faking the wicker mats used to keep ready rounds out of the mud for my towed 15cm & 10cm arty elements. They worked from 18". PaulE

Morning everyone,

didn't get the white stripped off due to hospital visiting again so the paint got a bit harder than it should have :disappointed2:

I ended up totally immersing it in warm water yesterday and leaving it for a few hours to soften up so that I could then attack it with a toothbrush - it was still quite a task and didn't really flake off quite as well as I hoped so results are not great. May end up back on the cupboard again

I also managed to cause a bit of damage knocking various parts off in the process but got them all stuck back on in the end

I gave it a couple of washes with W&N water oils Paynes Grey thinned with water and Medea (to help it flow) to take the starkness out of the white
