    1:35 SturmTiger prototype, kit bash

    Welcome
The build is at weathering and will be weathered with OPR or SODA, oil paints for everyone else
I shall be making an attempt to apply Michael Rinaldi's techniques with oil paints.
I will be using 502 Abteilung oils
The build was a kit bash using the base of the Revell early Tiger and the citadel of the AFV kit

    The prototype

The build blog in its entirety

    SturmTiger prototype kit bash

Where it is now, waiting for oils

    More over the coming weeks

I shall be following John's build as it is the full AFV not just a few bits

    Regards

        Thanks for you patience

        Very late update!

I have some photos of my first attempt at the oil paint render, a'la Rinaldi

Not sure how it went, I still feel in two minds as to whether it was successful or not.

There will be more as in a base and figures, but here she is

A starter of one view with different lighting, before and after

and some more, the SturmTiger will be abandoned on building rubble which has created the off set run off of rain and general dust marking.

The barrel and mantel needs some tidying up, then its more or less done?

        See anything else?

        Just let me know

        Thanks

        Steve H

          Hi Steve
Looks good to me. Advantage of oils is you can always come back and tweek the effect as oils stay tweekable for ages.

              Hi Steve

I too am a big fan of MR's OPR system. I find it gives order to my own painting techniques. One area however I am trying to include now is the mapping and layering stages. Especially incorporating more than one dirt/dust layer. I expect it will take a few more attempts before I master the system but the differences are very noticeable. So stick with the methods and discover your own individual look. If possible try and get his Tankart books. I have three now and they are invaluable. Look forward to seeing your next update

                Thank chaps, much appreciated

I have 3 of the TankArt books Steve, but what I have found very useful, though in very short supply are Mr R's YouTube videos from shows, where you can see and hear what he is doing.

                Sometimes a picture/video is better than a 1,000 words.

I generally use my mobile, and earbuds and listen whilst working on the SturmTiger.

There is still a long way to go though, and I can grasp the concept, but will need considerably more practice.

After tidying up the gun barrel and mantle, I shall leave her until I weather her into the base with urban wreckage, dust and some figures

A reasonable conclusion to my Dunkelgelb experiment

Thanks again and Happy New Year

                regards

                Steve H

Thats a lot better, it has toned down a treat, and I can see where you are going with this once the final weathering is complete. Looking forward to more. excellent.
                      Cheers, Mike.

I think it looks great so far Steve. Looks like a very complicated weathering system - way beyond me.
