German Panzer I Ausf A (Late Version) HobbyBoss/Tristar
Cheers Rick:thumb2::thumb2:
High praise from a master like yourself Mike. Many thanks
It certainly is well detailed Scottie. Didn't realise it was going to be so small again. Maybe I should do 1:16 next time:smiling3:
If it looks like metal then my work is done Richard:smiling3:. Many thanks for the support
Your dead right Si. Really enjoying this one.
Many thanks Jim:thumb2:
Its been a nice relief from the hard stuff Peter. Thanks for the compliments
Layering is an area of my system that I am looking to improve Jim. Glad you noticed it:thumb2:
Cheers Paul:thumb2::thumb2:
Well due to an unexpected day off due to the weather I was able to get some bench time in today. Not before I had gone out to Dartmoor and had a snowball fight with the Mrs's:smiling3: Kids at 50! Luv it
That’s just slightly more snow than we’ve been having around here (Everything sort of white in the morning, almost all gone by the afternoon.)

You also get a spare wheel as well which may come in handy later with the stowage.
Probably for the Ausf. B, with had five roadwheels and a raised idler — which seems to be the big wheel next to the drive sprocket in the sprue.
Hi Steve
Cracking progress and a snow day too.
Tristar/Hobbyboss are the only ones that use a chamfered ring to raise the rim on their road wheels.
MiniArt don't bother
Dragon use a PE brass ring to raise the rim higher than the tyre.
The spare wheels might be part of the early/late choice?
Have you decided which one to do, yet?
The early version doesn't have the inner rim support with the single rivet as per your photo below
The larger idler wheels don't have the additional support at all and are completely different on the Pz I B version, not just raised off the ground.
Interesting feedback Jakko and Steve. Much appreciated. I am going for the late version but interestingly the kit does not offer an option on the wheels but but they do on many other parts throughout the build. So I am lucky hat the wheels are the late version. No real issues at the moment, however I will be doing the engine soon and I have no idea about colours. I have searched for a revamped one on the internet but to no avail. If you have any ideas or opinions on the colours I am all ears. Many thanks in advance
Top work again Steve. As you say a little bit of artistic license is allowed. I always thought the inside of hatches were painted the same as the outside. I didn't realise they were white in the early days as well as the interior. A very interesting article. Many thanks
I always thought the inside of hatches were painted the same as the outside.
It also depends on what the hatch is for. Crew hatches for everyday use are usually painted the same on both sides, but others may not be, and there’s always exceptions you don’t expect. An example I recently found is that the drivers’ hatches on LVT(4) Buffalos, for example, were white on the inside even though you’d expect them to be olive drab like the rest of the vehicle. Moral of the story: check your references
As with all things there is no definitive answer just a common theme Jakko. As you know the reason they painted over the Elfenbein on the inside of the hatches, was so that the tank could not easily be seen from the air with the hatches open. This was something that was realised during the first year or so of the war. Therefore the early tanks would have come out all painted nice and nice. As this is going to be at the start of the war I will paint the drivers hatches Elfenbein , engine hatch red oxide and the gear box/transmission hatch grey green.
Looks like a cracking video JR. I will try and watch it in between the rugby this afternoon. Many thanks
.
Found this buried in my references, it might help
A 10 minute video walk round and inside a Pz I, all repainted by the museum though! video Pz I
Nearly time for the match
