Good to see you recovered and back at the bench, and more armour too.
Rapid progress too.
4 x 1/35 figures to paint too!
And Tamiya figures to boot, no Hornet transplanted heads!
This is the best part for many, the weathering of the tank.
I have been watching the You Tube series from Adam Wilder of his extreme modulation and weathering.
For many it way beyond reality, but it does look so good, even if it is artistic license.
I have finally got the new laptop working!

Thanks for the encouraging words chaps. I'm quite pleased that I managed to get the build done without any major disasters - now to ruin it with the weathering!
Steve - Glad you are back in the land of the living and re-connected to the world. We had snow broadcast for overnight, but there was none, and in fact we awoke to a bright sunny, if frosty morning.
The figures look perfectly OK to me. Not as good as some of Tamiya's recent offerings, but perfectly paintable (again, famous last words).Comment

So here she is after the latest session:
The main part of the build and paint job is more-or-less complete - just the stowage to add now.
The basic wear was added by dry-brushing on layers of Vallejo Camo Olive Green mixed with increasing amounts of Flat Flesh. At about the half-way stage, I applied a wash of thinned black to the whole thing, then continued dry-brushing, adding more white to the mix. I then applied graphite with my finger to add a metallic and oily look to the panels and highlights, then dry-brushed on a little more of the lighter colours, adding silver, to achieve the final highlights. The last stage was to re-draw the lines and detail with thinned black, using a fine brush.
I next applied the decals, then weathered them in with graphite and very thin washes. The tools were then cleaned up and given a coat of matt black before mounting. The details were then picked out with the appropriate colours. The final stage was assembling and mounting the 50 cal.
I'll leave this alone now until tomorrow, when hopefully a fresh eye will help with any adjustments that are needed.Comment

Steve - Thank you. Funny how we end up doing one type of finish despite ourselves. This looked a lot dirtier at a couple of points during weathering, but my natural instinct is to eventually even out the tones to give a subtler effect.
Jim - I've never used specialised weathering products, but I probably will at some point in the future once (if at all) I've gained confidence.Comment

Super finish on the M8, you have turned an old girl into the Bell of the ball.
As for finish, its good enough to leave, or if you feel the need, to be blended into a base.
Then perhaps the new fangled pigments and pastes could be OK, but only if it is relevant!
Whats next, Jeep, Base, Figures?
I am sure it will be fun which ever one.
Its a winter wonderland here, a balmy -1 C and a layer of snow over everything.
We are apparently missing the worst of it!

Steve - We had snow overnight here, but the rain we've had all day has washed it away. Re, the weathering. I'll probably just leave it this time, as I quite like the finish.

Today was stowage day. I used a mix of stuff from the allied vehicles accessories set and the kit personal equipment sprue. I think there are nineteen items in all. The only way I could see to paint it was as I would a figure, so it ended up be very time-consuming, especially as the detail was so fine. The final act was to tie it all down with grey embroidery thread for rope.
On to the jeep (the figures will be last).Comment
